To (near) quote Steinbeck ‘The Cause’ of Scotland remains unwon. Ex-SNP member whose criticism of the SNP is bc we / it must be better in order to persuade.

Saw this photo of my Auld Da (now gone) for the first time today. Taken in the late 60s in Croatia. That’s him wearing his SNP t-shirt. How far the SNP has come since then, and how far he thought it had from its core objective in the years since Sturgeon’s New SNP took over.

Jeff Daniels met Clint Eastwood at Pebble Beach, and Clint’s one comment was about the Dumb and Dumber toilet scene. “Here Comes Clint Eastwood” “I just saw Dumb and Dumber” “you had to see that one” “I laughed you know the toilet scene” “I was in it” “that happened to me” paid ten grand to be famous and got a review from dirty harry himself

He doesn’t mean the neutral teaching of the contribution of black folk to Scottish history (eg Andrew Watson) or the legacy of Empire (omitting the part class played). I suspect what he / she REALLY means is teaching WC scheme weans about their and their forefathers original sin.
Meanwhile in Scotland's Parliament: "Black history is Scottish history" You aren't mentally ready for this voice

Reminds me of a joke from Norm Macdonald: A man boarded an airplane and took his seat. As he settled in, he glanced up and saw the most beautiful woman boarding the plane. He soon realized she was heading straight toward his seat. As fate would have it, she took the seat right beside his. Eager to strike up a conversation, he blurted out, “Business trip or pleasure?” She turned, smiled, and said, “Business. I’m going to the Annual Nymphomaniacs of America Convention in Boston.” He swallowed hard. Here was this most gorgeous woman he had ever seen sitting next to him, and she was going to a meeting of nymphomaniacs! Struggling to maintain his composure, he calmly asked, “What’s your business at this convention?” “Lecturer. I use the information I’ve learned from my personal experiences to debunk some of the popular myths about sexuality.” “Really?” he said. “What kind of myths are there?” “Well, one popular myth says that African American men are the most well endowed of all men, when in fact it’s the Native American Indian who is most likely to possess that trait. Another popular myth is that Frenchmen are the best lovers, when actually it is men of Jewish descent who are the best. I have also discovered that the lover with absolutely the best stamina is the Southern Redneck.” Suddenly, the woman became a little uncomfortable and blushed. “I’m sorry,” she said. “I shouldn’t really be discussing this with you. I don’t even know your name.” “It’s Tonto,” the man said, “Tonto Goldstein, but my friends call me Bubba!”

A few years ago I was talking to an SNP adjacent guy from Civic Scotland about a guy we both knew at Uni. A guy that ‘men’s men’ and most others loved. He said ‘he’s dead. Drink killed him’. I admire JW’s annual ‘birthday’ message. It will literally save people (from themselves)
Hi everyone! I’m exactly 15 years sober today and want to extend my congrats to those achieving something similar! To those on the same path, love 💛 and strength 💪🏽 To those trying to get there, I’m waiting to welcome you 🤝

The transparently performative middle aged guy who’s here to tell you you must ‘do better’ because his job and social status amongst the social milieu he operates in rewards it. Will stand behind any placard offered to him by a favoured Scottish Third Sector org. Low wattage.

Tomorrow we're releasing a full UATX course for free: all 19 lectures of Professor Isabella Reinhardt's Rise and Fall of Ancient Rome, filmed in class with our students. It runs from Rome's mythical founding to the Third Century Crisis. It ends on a question the class spent a whole session arguing about: did Rome ever really fall?

Rentable, public space, wheelchairs, based on the model for bikes would be, as they say, a ‘game changer’ for facilitating trips / interactions with the elderly and infirm.
One thing that strikes me, having spent more time with elderly people in recent years, is how much has gone into adding banks of scooters and bikes to pick up on the street, but wheelchairs to borrow when out with someone who can walk, but not far, hasn’t become a thing.

Perhaps ironic that in listening to this and Branagh’s versions of this very ‘English’ speech, I am often reminded of Salmond, the Indy Ref years and the pre Sturgeon SNP. The appeal to something greater than the individual. ‘Campaign in poetry’. It’s been lost. I miss it.
Probably my favourite version. It's much less bombastic than Olivier's or Branagh's. #StCrispinsDay

I usually always ask London black cab drivers their best and worst celebrity hires. Best Paul Weller Samuel J Jackson Tom Cruise Worst Ruby Wax Towns Atkinson James Corden Frank Lampard
I just watched a video where someone discussed the rudest celebrities they’ve encountered. They said that Sean Penn, Seth Rogan, Will Farrell, and Jamie Lee Curtis were the worst. Does this surprise you?

Hitchens walking through the culture utterly confident in who he is and what he stands for. Even if you don’t agree with his politics, there’s something magnificent about that. The never pandering to ‘current thing’.
