#5 NCBI BLAST ONLINE
Need a clean and simple interface to search sequences one by one? Of course you do.
Elite bioinformaticians don't automate things, because you can MISS SOMETHING in the results.
Simply paste your millions of sequences one by one into NCBI BLAST ONLINE

The claim by @lpachter that "hardly anyone reads papers anymore" is super interesting, and has generated a lot of discussion.
I think that there is a lot going on here...

I first started using ApE over a decade ago. It’s wild to see that this is the first ApE paper. Congrats, and thanks for such a wonderful piece of software 🎉
A description of ApE is now out in Frontiers in Bioinformatics: frontiersin.org/articles/10.…
Thanks to the readers, reviewers, and everyone who's helped make ApE what it is.

Last week I was invited to sign a letter offering support for David Sabatini, organized by current & former lab members. Universities considering hiring him have asked for this.
I will not sign.
There was no option to provide a more nuanced response, so I will elaborate here 🧵

My experience does not align with this. I joined a company after my PhD, and nobody thought they were entitled to my time 24/7, all of my colleagues were respectful and appreciative of my labor. That makes it easier by orders of magnitude.
