An important read on @nytimes media bias.
The New York Times coverage of the Gaza-Israel war was grossly pro-Palestinian and anti-Israel, according to a peer-reviewed study. Jewish casualties were omitted or minimized while Palestinian casualties were amplified and misrepresented.
Yale University Professor Edieal Pinker published the review in the an academic journal Studies in Conflict & Terrorism. His peer-reviewed research quantitatively evaluated 1,559 New York Times articles published between October 7, 2023, and June 7, 2024, to assess potential narrative imbalances.
The study found that:
- 91% of the analyzed articles failed to mention Israeli casualties that occurred after October 7.
- 1,423 articles completely omitted mentions of both Israeli post-Oct. 7 casualties and Hamas combatant deaths.
- 50% of the articles did not reference the Israeli hostages held by Hamas during the fighting, and 41% omitted mentions of the Israeli casualties from the initial October 7 attack itself.
- Personal stories highlighting Palestinian and Lebanese suffering appeared on average two out of every three days. Comparable accounts of Israeli suffering unrelated directly to the October 7 events appeared in very few articles.
- The word "Israel" appeared 27,205 times across the dataset, compared to just 8,499 mentions of "Hamas," meaning Israel was mentioned more than three times as often. This statistical discrepancy places near-exclusive agency and responsibility on Israel while severely diminishing Hamas's role in sustaining the conflict.
Pinker concluded that these consistent editorial choices cultivated a dominant narrative portraying Israel as the sole aggressor facing few consequences beyond losing international sympathy, while Palestinians were predominantly framed as passive victims. He argues that the coverage deprives readers of a comprehensive understanding of the ongoing combat dynamics and the continuous nature of Israeli losses.
Following the initial release of the study data, The New York Times publicly defended its reporting, claiming it has covered the war with rigor and from all angles. Of course my commentary on their reporting shows that this defense is hot garbage.
The New York Times buried the Holocaust in the back pages and then doubled down on downplaying Jewish suffering after October 7. They are a disgusting business that should be boycotted.

Absolutely mindblowing. My friend has to spend nearly $1000 a year to go to temple without being shot by a Jew hating freak.
My temple has a line item surcharge for security, so I can tell you definitely that what it costs an average Jewish family.
I attend a moderately-sized Reform temple in a Los Angeles suburb. In 2016, it was $75 a year. We had security only during the high holidays. Security was often unarmed and passive.
In 2026, security fees were increased once again. They've been increased every year since 2022. Before then, they only increased when necessary. My annual part is $725. We have armed security nearly 24/7 and an actively monitored network of security cameras. For the high holidays, we hire off-duty police officers and rent a team that does bag checks. We installed metal detectors in early 2024.
Mind you, these are the fees for a single congregant. Fees for families, or those that use the day school programming, are much higher.

When I was a lawyer at Gibson Dunn in D.C., we took our summer associates to the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum. A survivor spoke to us and said something that stuck with me:
Lawyers need to know the holocaust did not begin with camps. It began when Jews were removed from institutions - above all, legal institutions. Judges stripped of their robes. Lawyers disbarred. Then, when law-groups were Judenrein, they codified laws that made discrimination systematic and "legal."
First, you remove the Jews from the institutions. Then, Jews can be discriminated against without representation.
On Monday, Mayor Mamdani announced his 18-member Advisory Committee on the Judiciary. The Committee was promised to be "truly reflective of New York City."
Not one of the 18 is Jewish.
Not one Jewish attorney, former judge, or law professor - in a city where one in eight residents is Jewish and even Justice John Leventhal, recommended by the State's Chief Judge, was rejected.
It is estimated that over 50% of the New York bar is Jewish. That means there is a 0.0004% chance of no Jews being selected to the Committee.
Mamdani’s marginalization of Jews has been ongoing, and few voices on the Left have spoken up.
On Day 1, Mamdani revoked the IHRA antisemitism definition (top priority); he changed the NYPD guidance protecting houses of worship, eliminated Jews from the City's immigrant-heritage map, called for the arrest of the prime minister of the only Jewish state, and now created a Judenrein Judiciary Committee.
My grandmother, Leah, survived Nazi Germany. Before the laws, before the violence, she told me how she was pushed out of her high school groups. Then, once excluded from all activities, she was bullied and marginalized.
We are already seeing Step 2 in NYC. Two weeks ago, on a Jewish Holiday, two men were stabbed outside Upper West Side synagogues - one wearing a kippah- and yesterday, Jewish students were attacked. Every 26 hours, there is a hate crime against Jews in NYC.
In NYC, there is a concerted effort to disappear Jews from public life and leadership.
No one on the Left is speaking out. If this discrimination was happening to any other group, the chorus would be deafening.
To be clear, Jews will find a way. Many are already taking their talents elsewhere. When white-shoe firms shut Jewish lawyers out, they built firms that now dominate. Cardozo, Louis Marshall, and Ruth Bader Ginsburg all found a way despite discrimination.
But NYC will be worse off without us. A city government that is judenrein - cleansed of Jews – does not just hurt the Jews, but hurts the city.
The tragedy is not just that Jews were left out of the institutions. It is that the institutions were left without the Jews.

This was the top of the New York Times last night. The first thing every reader sees the moment they land on the homepage of the most influential news outlet on earth. All three stories about Israel.
There is a famous communications scholar named Maxwell McCombs who developed what is now called the "agenda setting theory."
His core finding is simple: The press is not very good at telling people what to think. It is extraordinarily good, however, at telling people what to think ABOUT.
And what the New York Times has decided you should think about, every single day, multiple times a day, forever and always, is Israel.
You cannot saturate the most influential newsroom in the English language with relentless coverage of one small country and then act surprised when the public becomes similarly hyper-fixated with it.
The animosity we constantly see is the predictable output of editorial selection, repeated daily, until it becomes the background music of how people think about the Jewish state.

The NY Times purported to address the issues with the "dog rape" story but ignores or mostly sidestep the key issues. Here is my response:
1. Sami al-Sai is a confirmed Hamas operative, he had a documented history of working for them, per PA sources, not Israel. He alleged sexual violence against them too, which the PA denied. He is not a credible witness; at minimum his past work for Hamas and the incident with the PA should have been disclosed.
2. Euro-Med and its head Ramy Abdu have a long list of close ties to Hamas, it's not just that Abdu supported 10/7. Significant additional evidence has been brought forth to prove this connection, including close ties between Abdu and Ismail Haniyeh. A Hamas front should not be cited at all. It was not even disclosed in the piece, which was stunning.
3. The testimony from Chile, if you actually read what the victims say, is that there was no penetration, just mounting. One victim said the dog was ordered to "climb on top of me...mercifully, there was no penetration.” No victim claimed penetration. The medical journal cases are based on human initiated contact, nothing as alleged in Israeli prisons. There is no documented example in history of a dog trained to be aroused, mount and penetrate. Never. This should have been noted that the specific claim against Israel is unique in documented history.
4. Several prominent canine experts have made it clear that training dogs to reach arousal and penetrate on command (and anally as alleged) is not possible. It's notable that the article did not cite an expert to back the claim and still has not. Such as sensational claim should have included experts for fact checking. No dog expert has yet emerged that back the assertions in the article. It's a fatal gap in the story.
5. The penetration claims comes from an unnamed "Gaza journalist." However, dozens of Gaza journalists have now been outed as Hamas & PIJ combatants, by their own martyr notices. The fact that his claim is considered by canine experts to be impossible further harms his credibility.
6. Shaiel Ben Ephraim, a key source linked to, and featured in the video, has walked back the claim of "dog rape." On Piers Morgan he said: “the detainee sort of exposed and having a dog sort of seemed like it was about mounting… Whether there’s been penetration or not, I don’t know if there has been or hasn’t.” It seemed dubious to cite a source based in California with no first hand knowledge of the goings on in Israeli prisons. Add in the "Gaza journalist" and lack of a canine expert, and this part of the story falls apart. A correction should be issued.
7. Ehud Olmert said he was misrepresented in the piece. This should be acknowledged and a correction issued.
8. If it's: "It’s impossible to know how common sexual assaults against Palestinians are" as written, then how is it possible to then claim it's "standard operating procedure" as also written? Anything beyond recounting cases of abuse is thus pure speculation. There is no evidence beyond cases of alleged abuse in prisons, which few deny and are unfortunately quite common in prisons worldwide. In the US there were 8,628 allegations of staff-committed sexual misconduct victimizing adult inmates in 2020 - is it fair to call it "standard operating procedure"?

There are a few things things that college kids—especially the ones chanting "free palestine" and "from the river to the sea"—should know about the history and founding of Israel.
A Palestinian state was already created in 1921. There was a British mandate of Palestine, which was a foreign occupied colony of the British Empire, which comprised modern-day what's Israel and what's now Jordan.
The Jews believed they were entitled, based on the Balfour Declaration of 1917, to the entire mandate of Palestine to be the future Jewish state. In 1921, it became clear that wasn't to be. The British understood they were gonna need oil from the Arab states in a future global conflict, and so they ceded 77% of that land to create a state for the Arab Muslim Palestinians.
They weren't called Palestinians then, but they were the Arab Muslims who lived in the British colony of Palestine. That country became first known as Transjordan on the other side of the Jordan, then it became the Kingdom of Jordan, and ultimately today we know it as Jordan. So there is a Palestinian state full of Palestinian Muslim Arabs.
There's a Palestinian queen in that state today. The prince and future king of that state is a Palestinian, and over 60% of the population are people who are Arab Muslims from the mandate of Palestine. So there is a Palestinian state. What they really want is a second Palestinian state, a 58th Muslim state, a 23rd Arab state in the world—but it's just too much to have one teeny-tiny Jewish state.
The second and more important thing to understand is that Israel and the international community have already offered the Palestinians on six prior occasions, in 1936 in the Peel Commission, 1947 in the Partition Plan, 1967 at Khartoum after the Six-Day War in Sudan, 1993 at Oslo, 2000 at Camp David with Bill Clinton, and again 2008 with Ehud Olmert as the prime minister.
On six different occasions, Israel, America, and the international community offered the Palestinians their own state, their own sovereign territory with their own government to to do as they please with, on the land that college kids now seem to believe they deserve a state on.
And what college kids don't understand is the Palestinians rejected that state on six different occasions.
On college campuses, when kids chant "From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free," realize that is only the English jingle that was created in order to appeal to and deceive American college kids.
In Arabic, the original phrase is: "From the river to the sea, Palestine will be Arabic."
They want a full Palestinian Arab state from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea with no Jews on it.
That's what they've done in every other Arab country in the world, where they've expelled and ethnically cleansed the 850,000 Jews who lived all over the Muslim world, starting in the middle of the 20th century. People who have lived there, by the way, for centuries, all ethnically cleansed.
They want to do the same thing with the 10 million people who now live in Israel, and we're never gonna allow that to happen.
