Last year, Ratalaika Games released Sunsoft's 1994 Super Famicom game Shounen Ninja Sasuke for the first time in English, but rather than giving it the faithful treatment all Japanese media should receive it was localized as Justice Ninja Casey.
There is absolutely no excuse for localization practices where companies act as though Western audiences just can't connect to Japanese names or culture. It makes even less sense in a work with an obvious Japanese setting.
This isn't quirky, it isn't cute, it's just completely unnecessary vandalism. If these companies cannot respect the source material, they shouldn't be "translating" them at all.
Japanese media and the audience deserve better.
