Introducing The Future of Attention - a conversation series with people shaping how we create, consume, and distribute ideas :) Starting with @hamishmckenzie, co-founder of @Substack (my favorite app) & writer of "How to Save the Media", to chat about: → Who gets to decide what humans pay attention to? → Can independent media build something better than the institutions it's replacing? → What happens to journalism when anyone can become a publisher? And finally: what does it actually mean to save the media? See you on nov 4th at 12pm pt !

The coding interview is dead, at least for my team at Anthropic. I've seen enough to know that it no longer provides signal. I removed it from loops this month. I have a spicy, optimistic take - I think there's an opportunity for junior engineers: felixrieseberg.com/hunger-be…

when i moved to the US 2 years ago i had no idea on how credit scores worked. and it was super hard to get an apartment without one and with 0 idea on how it actually worked (so different compared to europe!) i had a pretty hard time. this is actually very cool, esp for anyone just leaning about credit scores, i still don’t really get why your credit goes down when someone checks your credit score for an apt for example(??) but at least some insights will surely help many including me! h/t @OpenAI

this is great, filters out how many people get discouraged and give up vs. ones that go back to trying after an inconvenience. and i think the same applies to everything, you just have to show up again and again
~1 in 3 teams we accept for speedrun are reapplicants they use the 3-6 months between applications to: - narrow in on a stronger idea - find a cofounder - get to traction a "no" is temporary keep building - that's all that matters

congrats @benthompson & @stripe!! so happy to see long-form essays getting the attention they deserve (after 12 years of no sponsorship - wow)! 🙇‍♀️

I always intended Stratechery to have a sponsorship component; it just took me 12 years to get back to it. That I could do so with the company that made the subscription business possible makes me so happy. There is nothing better than endorsing a product you whole-heartedly believe in.

Once you start paying attention to the 'paid partnership' tag, its hard to unsee how much of the buzz is actually just paid engagements
ever since the “Paid partnership” tag was added on here, mass paid partnerships have become such a strange launch strategy. you spend all this money to make it look like everyone’s talking about your product, then put a little disclaimer under every post explaining why.

I'm very pro having the tag (esp given paid ads are going to exists and if i'm following someone that has a few paid posts thats fine, i'd def respect that they disclose) but also very aware that views don't convert to community / customers

People told me X would be scary but honestly it’s only made me so happy how much better I can connect with people

An intro! I’m Carol :) 1) born in China, raised in Boston, went to college in LA (USC), now in NYC (woo) 2) spent 4 years as an engineer at Stripe working on consumer crypto and applied ai stuff 3) started making content in January and idk who let this happen but now at 100k+ followers on Instagram (carol.yaps) and 150k across platforms. I build, vibecode, and yap about everything tech, ai, money, being a woman. I REALLY care that women understand how ai tech money etc works at the highest levels 4) In February I made a slightly hater video about Palantir and it went a bit viral but apparently was good bc Palantir themselves reached out to make content with me LMAO (I said no) Right now I’m deeply interested in empathetic AI education, weird/interesting applications of AI (recently talked to turn-based fanfiction founder) and reading dungeon crawler carl. DM me if you want to yap about any of the above

%100 agree. This happens more often than you probably imagine. And every time I'm glad that theres a public archive even if my ideas have changed.
I've found myself doing this more and more again. Have your thoughts on the internet, and share it with people. One to many communication is the way to scale.
