Fear sells. Fearmongering about AI and tech really sells.
I’m building the opposite.
Today, I’m launching The Compute Optimist (@ComputeOptimist). Analysis, reporting, and the receipts on the technologies poised to drive unprecedented human prosperity—if we let them.

Concorde made its final flight in 2003. Somehow, more than two decades later, it still looks futuristic.

For years, North Windham has lacked the public wastewater infrastructure needed to support further economic and residential growth in the area.
Today, I joined local leaders to cut the ribbon on the North Windham Wastewater Treatment Facility. This new state-of-the-art system will support new business and housing development and is expected to prevent thousands of pounds of nitrogen and phosphorus from entering the North Windham aquifer each year.
This great achievement is the result of the Town of Windham, the Portland Water District, and Windham Raymond Schools working together with state and federal partners. I was delighted to contribute to the success of this project by securing $2 million through my role on the Senate Appropriations Committee. Over the past five years, I have secured more than $164 million to support 83 water and wastewater projects throughout Maine, helping to make long-overdue infrastructure upgrades and strengthen the economic and environmental health of communities across our state.

Thought my cross-country flight was Starlink-equipped and just found out it isn’t yet while in the air
We announced an agreement to acquire a nationwide low-band spectrum license portfolio that will pave the way for @Starlink to become a major mobile carrier in the US.
With this new spectrum and our Gen2 constellation, Starlink Mobile can ensure Americans have access to high-speed mobile broadband no matter where they are → spacex.com/updates#starlink-…

Say a scam ring is targeting event space venues posing as catering vendors. Invoice descriptions are similar but differ in exact wording.
Referencing appetizers, one scammer uses “serving platter.” Another, “presentation trays.”
Basic keyword matching misses this. AI clocks it.

Really interesting piece
Big tech companies are well-positioned to ID scam patters and behaviors, but there are blocks to information sharing.
I also expect AI will help them ID patterns more and block problems earlier
A grandmother received a call from someone claiming to be her grandson. He needed $13K after an accident in Cancun. She sent the cash.
Eventually, software flagged a pattern. That flag triggered an investigation that uncovered an organized, int’l scam ring. My @RSI latest ✍🏻
