Well, another Cardinal has come out with a, shall we say, puzzling take on evangelization.
A few years ago, Cardinal Américo Aguiar, at the time auxiliary bishop of Lisbon, said that he and the other organizers of World Youth Day in his hometown had no interest in converting anyone to Christ.
Now Cardinal Jean-Paul Vesco of Algeria has opined that “the Church is not there to convert” and “Christians should approach other religions through fraternity rather than seeking conversions.”
Excuse me, but…what?
Last time I checked, the Founder said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” Sure sounds like conversion to me.
When St. Paul came to Corinth or Athens or Thessalonica, his purpose was not to listen or to form a discussion group but rather to declare an unnerving message: the euangelion (glad tidings) that Jesus Christ is risen from the dead.
So impassioned is he for this work that he says, “I have become all things to all people, that I might by all means save some. I do it all for the sake of the gospel” (1 Cor. 9:22); and “If I proclaim the gospel, this gives me no ground for boasting, for an obligation is laid on me, and woe to me if I do not proclaim the gospel” (1 Cor. 9:16)!
Moreover, the entire thrust of the Second Vatican Council was toward bringing the Light of Christ to the peoples of the world (Lumen Gentium). And this missionary élan has given rise in the last few decades to the idea of a “new evangelization,” which is to say, a fresh declaration of the Lordship of Christ.
Quite obviously, no one thinks that this work of evangelization should be done in a brow-beating, overbearing, or disrespectful manner (proselytization), but for God’s sake, let’s not throw the baby out with the bathwater.
If I really thought that the Church does not exist to bring people to Christ, then I would resign and get an honest job.

Mel Brooks on how Alfred Hitchcock reacted after seeing the premiere of “High Anxiety” (1977): “‘High Anxiety' premiered on December 25, 1977. At that premiere screening, Hitch sat right next to me. I had my own high anxiety awaiting his reaction. He didn’t laugh. He just sat and he watched. He only broke up once. When the birds let go and plastered me with their droppings, then I could see his shoulders shaking. When the film was over, he got up and walked out. He didn’t say he liked the picture. He didn’t say he hated the picture. He didn’t say anything. He just left. I was devastated. And really worried. Not long after, when I came into the office, there on my desk was a huge box covered with silver paper and red ribbon. I tore the paper open and underneath was an impressive wooden case with a label that read: CHATEAU HAUT BRION 1961. I opened it to see six big, beautiful magnums of Chateau Haut Brion 1961. A priceless gift of one of the finest wines ever made. There was a note:
"My dear Mel,
What a splendid entertainment, one that should give you no anxieties of any kind.
I thank you most humbly for your dedication and I offer you further thanks on behalf of the Golden Gate Bridge.
With kindest regards and again my warmest congratulations.
--- Hitch"

An iconic 1985 photograph captures a British Airways Concorde, the RAF Red Arrows in their signature 'Diamond Nine' formation, and Cunard's ocean liner Queen Elizabeth 2 (QE2) over the English Channel...
It is a well-known 1985 photograph by aviation photographer Arthur Gibson. It shows a British Airways Concorde (G-BOAG, in the then-new Landor livery), the RAF Red Arrows (in their Hawk jets, with smoke trails), and the Cunard ocean liner Queen Elizabeth 2 (QE2) in the English Channel.
It is often called “the photograph of the century.” Gibson shot it from the Red Arrows’ tenth aircraft (the “photo ship”). The pilot flew inverted so Gibson could aim the camera through the cockpit canopy. Concorde flew near its minimum controllable speed to stay with the slower Hawks, while the QE2 maintained a steady course below. The sortie was carefully planned and coordinated with British Airways, the RAF, and Cunard (linked to the 1985 Royal International Air Tattoo at Fairford).

Over two thousand years ago, Marcus Tullius Cicero watched the Roman Republic collapse under the weight of executive tyranny, partisan lawfare, and mob intimidation.
Cicero was Rome's greatest orator, constitutional jurist, and foremost philosophical statesman. Rising without patrician dynasty or military legion as a "new man" (novus homo), he attained the highest office of Consul in 63 BC through sheer rhetorical brilliance and unyielding intellect. During his consulship, he personally uncovered and dismantled the Catiline conspiracy, exposing an aristocratic plot to overthrow the Senate, set fire to Rome, and install a dictatorship. The Senate hailed him as Pater Patriae ("Father of the Fatherland") for saving the republic from internal collapse.
He spent his life defending constitutional checks and balances. He took on entrenched oligarchs by prosecuting the corrupt Sicilian governor Verres, and he later sacrificed his life resisting the tyranny of Mark Antony and Julius Caesar. Centuries later, his writings on natural law and republican liberty became the primary intellectual blueprint studied by the American Founding Fathers.
Today, institutional bureaucrats claim that truth, justice, and fundamental rights are mere social conventions that can be rewritten by administrative fiat or an ideological majority. Cicero demolished that argument in De Legibus (On the Laws):
"If the will of the multitude, the decrees of leaders, or the sentences of judges could establish justice, then justice might consist of robbery, adultery, or the falsification of wills, if such things were approved by the votes or edicts of the crowd."
Cicero understood that legitimate law is anchored in objective moral reality and permanent constitutional restraint. When a political faction severs the law from objective truth, the courts cease protecting the innocent and transform into weapons of state extortion.
Rome did not fall overnight. It fell when corrupt factions weaponized the judiciary, bought off mobs, and discarded centuries of constitutional order. When an administrative regime treats justice as a raw tool of partisan dominance, liberty dies by decree.

I can tell you exactly what will happen if Democrats regain power: They will use your money to fly deported illegal aliens back to America and pay them settlements. They will re-open our borders and ship millions of foreign people to any community they want. And they won't stop until America becomes an unrecognizable country.
