"silent consumption is killing off writers" then they weren't writing for the right reasons 🤷🏼‍♀️

i will die on this hill. nothing could ever kill my passion for writing, least of all people silently reading my work. it's normal to want praise and recognition, but it's unhealthy to allow your passion for something be dictated by it.

anyway, if anybody would like to read my writing, i have a website and will be uploading my fanfics to them, but if you have them downloaded already, pls share them w others!!! i would love if people continued to read my works even while AO3 is down 💖 elfsbe.com/portfolio

i just need to figure out HOW to share. if i should just post them to the website to read from the site or upload a pdf w them compiled? must ponder upon this 🤔

the real tragedy of AO3 being down is missing out on a potential deadpoetpie review for chapter 16 of milk & black spiders 😔

this is such a weird take. a large majority of us fanfic writers understand the reality of posting our works publicly and that doesn't deter us from posting. aren't you just diminishing your own works by believing all readers only see them as disposable content???
I'm begging the "If you don't want people to do whatever the fuck they want with YOUR work then don't post it in a public place " crowd to explain to me what they expect the natural consequences of defending and upholding this position might be. I'll wait.

as long as works maintain credit to the original author when the pdf/epubs are shared, are not reposted (especially reposted under someone else's name), and aren't being peddled for profit, nobody's doing anything wrong. just bc you don't like it, that doesn't make it immoral.

and this is spoken as someone who pretty much ONLY writes/posts fanfiction now and doesn't read much anymore. i guess i just have way more respect for my work than to discount dozens of kind and passionate readers bc i didn't receive direct engagement for a month.

if anyone comes for me, i write fanfiction more than i read fanfiction by a LARGE margin. idgaf if i don't have AO3 for a month, i only ever post now. so i'm not arguing for myself to read fics during the outage, i'm arguing as an author on the principle of fanfiction as a whole.

i swear, you people (readers AND writers) just want something to be upset about. a reader is not entitled to leave kudos or comments on your work to enjoy it and writers are not obligated to appease readers and accept unnecessary abuse. FANFICTION IS SUPPOSED TO BE FUN!!!

you guys are making it so NOT FUN bc your egos are all up in the mix. just write if you write and enjoy the people who love it too and read what you want and ignore the stuff you don't fucking like. this isn't difficult.
