President Donald Trump pledged to provide more federal aid to Texas flood victims after the Federal Emergency Management Agency denied the state’s initial request to help individuals recovering from widespread floods in July. bit.ly/48ntIHK
NEW: Texas has formally appealed FEMA's decision to deny aid to individuals after the July flooding in southwest Texas and the Hill Country.
President Trump announced yesterday at a GOP rally in Corpus Christi that more FEMA aid is coming.

There's a number @chiefkidd shared with legislators last month I can't stop thinking about amid FEMA's push for states to take on more disaster response.
Texas is paying $37 million of the state’s budgeted $1.9 billion for emergency response — or 2 percent.texastribune.org/2026/10/21/…
Texas' environmental permitting agency shut down its online permitting portal this week after watchdogs said data center related permits were getting advanced and approved -- against the governor's order. It's still offline today.
texastribune.org/2026/10/21/…
That matters because that portal is used for an array of permitting and reporting. But @PublicCitizenTX @FracTracker identified stormwater construction permits in particular had been issued for data center sites. Notices for those get approved automatically.
The watchdogs announced their findings the same day TCEQ told the governor they were following his directive and hadn't issued any permits. It's all unfolding of course in a frenzied election cycle where bipartisan data center opposition has grown loud. texastribune.org/2026/10/20/…

New this week: FEMA has denied a request for federal aid to individuals needing help after the July 2026 floods in Texas.
The decision comes as the Trump administration has shifted expectations to states to play a bigger role in disaster recovery.

Houston folks: I'll be at Brazos Bookstore tonight to have a discussion with Thomas Fox about the new book he just published on the July 4 Hill Country flood. Come by! There's lots to talk about and we'll have time for audience questions too.
NEW: Communities in southwest Texas have waited weeks for federal funding after last July's floods.
Yesterday, as Edouard bore down, Trump said Texas will get an unspecified $50.5 million in recovery aid. That's a fraction of the state July cost estimate. texastribune.org/2026/09/02/…

I guess if your house is going to flood you might as well enjoy it. Flash Flood Emergency in Texas continues. This was in Warren, TX. @accuweather
Forecasters warned of potentially catastrophic damage in part of Hardin County this morning. The emergency management coordinator said they're still assessing but had no flooded homes reported yet --- just roads. “Luckily we were very dry,” Tupper said.
texastribune.org/2026/08/31/…
It's a similar story in Polk and Tyler counties, which were under flash flood warnings. Polk helped people evacuate but had no high water rescues.
“Our saving grace this time was that everything was so dry that a lot of the water did suck into the ground,” Tyler's judge said.
NEW: Forecasters are warning of life-threatening flooding in an area of East Texas this morning with potentially catastrophic damage. Rainfall totals in spots had reached 15-22 inches, according to the weather service. At least one evacuation was reported. texastribune.org/2026/08/31/…
