Every ethnic group in Nigeria is unapologetic about who weilds political power in their indigenous ancestral homelands - But when it comes to Yoruba Land, suddenly it's bigotry if we don't let non-Yoruba govern/colonize us. Awake from slumber. Video Below.

A United Nigeria where Azikiwe allegedly wanted only the Igbo to remain in power indefinitely. A vision of unity in which he established the Igbo State Union but reportedly took issue with the Yorubas establishing Egbe Omo Oduduwa. A vision of unity in which other regional leaders were left vulnerable that led to their death, while Azikiwe's own political and evil calculations made him run away that time. A vision that, that sought to separate Lagos from its Yoruba roots while leaving the Yorubas in Kwara and Kogi divided from their kinsmen. A vision that raises serious questions about minority rights, regional autonomy, and subjugation of minorities. What kind of vision is it when one group's interests appear to take precedence over everyone else's? Azikiwe was a visionless man, that wanted his own people to always be in charge all over Nigeria while every other person should be landless in Nigeria. An evil visionless man.

When you read the works of Anthony Ndi and he explains what the indigenous people of Southern Cameroon suffered in the hands of Igbo nationalist leaders under the NCNC in the 1950s, you will never have a single pity for the Biafra victimhood nonsense and the cries of marginalisation. Nigeria lost Southern Cameroon because of the obnoxious racist policies of Igbo nationalists of the first republic. Southern Cameroonians according to the book referred to them as “unruly black colonialists” who were treating the people of southern Cameroon as conquered people. When you hear them use terms like “Living space”, no man’s land, “one Nigeria” etc they are all ethnic supremacist ideologies that their parents have wired into them. Every single Yoruba must know what they are up against. You are dealing with folks who believe they are the successors to British colonialists with a pathological sense of entitlement.

The truth they want to stone Opeyemi for speaking is something a true son of Igbo land has said before. The moment NAFDAC starts shutting down markets and shops, guess who will be the first to come online and cry foul?

When we started this campaign against the Nigerianisation of Yoruba culture, some people immediately screamed, “Tribal bigotry!” Of course. In a society where people are more afraid of being called tribalistic than they are of watching their own culture get swallowed by a national identity, defending your heritage is suddenly a crime. Some people would rather let their culture be erased than offend people who have no problem claiming it. Let’s talk about traditional headwear. Historically, Yoruba women had the Gèlè. In Senegal and other parts of West Africa, women wore headwraps commonly known as moussor, with styles and materials that differed from Yoruba head-ties. Igbo women also had traditional head coverings, including ichafu, often associated with scarf-like materials. These traditions were not identical. Different ethnic groups had different styles, materials, and cultural expressions. Yoruba women developed a distinctive tradition of elaborate head-tying, with the Gèlè becoming one of the most recognisable features of Yoruba women’s cultural fashion. As ethnic groups interacted, fashion crossed cultural boundaries. People borrowed, adapted, and popularised styles. And that is perfectly fine! What is NOT fine is taking a cultural practice associated with one ethnic group, stripping away its history, and then pretending that its popularity across Nigeria means it has no specific ethnic origin. Let me make this painfully simple: if a Yoruba cultural practice becomes popular among Igbo women, Hausa women, and women from other ethnic groups, it does not magically become an indigenous creation of every group that adopts it. Popularity is not paternity. Adoption is not invention. And national recognition is not proof of national origin. The same people who celebrate cultural diversity suddenly become uncomfortable when you insist on identifying the origins of a cultural practice. Why? Is Yoruba culture only worth celebrating when nobody is allowed to say it is Yoruba? You can wear the Gèlè. You can love the Gèlè. You can make the Gèlè part of your wedding outfit. But wearing something does not give you the right to rewrite its history. And before anyone starts shouting tribalism again, answer this question: If we cannot identify the ethnic origins of our cultural traditions without being accused of bigotry, what exactly is the point of having distinct ethnic cultures in the first place?
