BRIEF: Tanzania is quietly building Africa’s next " Silicon Valley & Swiss-style" financial & Tech safe haven in Fumba Peninsula, Zanzibar.
The structural thesis of Fumba relies on moving beyond traditional manufacturing-based Special Economic Zones (SEZs) toward a full "Sovereign Sandbox." or a Chartered City.
The Fumba Free Economic Zone Master Plan explicitly outlines provisions for an Offshore Financial Centre (OFC).
The strategic goal is to mimic the low-tax, high-privacy, and strict asset-protection ecosystems of jurisdictions like Switzerland or Singapore, deliberately tailored to attract digital nomads, crypto-adherents, and global tech capital.
To catalyze this, the regulatory framework slashes standard operational friction. The current incentive structure includes 0% capital gains and withholding taxes, 100% foreign business ownership, and streamlined residency permits for international tech founders.
This financial architecture is built to feed two massive, distinct physical developments on the peninsula namely; Dunia Cyber City, a crypto-friendly digital free zone optimized for tech infrastructure, and the newly integrated Fumba AFCON City, a sports-centric mega-project designed around upcoming stadium infrastructure to anchor international entertainment capital.
This project moves forward through a highly coordinated public-private actor network. On the political front, President Hussein Mwinyi’s administration is aggressively leveraging its "Blue Economy" agenda to back these zones.
On the execution side, private master developers like CPS Live drive the physical infrastructure, while the Charter Cities Institute (CCI) serves as the critical policy architect, actively drafting updated regulations and devolved governance frameworks to keep the city globally competitive.

The structural timeline highlights this rapid evolution. While the Fumba Free Economic Zone was structurally gazetted as far back as 1992, its true infrastructure breakout occurred when CPS began residential construction, followed by the landmark 2022 launch of the "Silicon Zanzibar" initiative.

REPORT: Tanzania, DRC’s and Burundi deal to link Dar port with DRC and Burundi with Standard Gauge Railway is now taking shape. Here is how the $2.33B western expansion looks right now.
First, once the network is complete, cargo transit from the Dar Port to the DRC border will plummet from days on congested roads to under 24 hours. Freight will split via a 282-km spur into Burundi or head to Kigoma's port for direct maritime transfer into eastern DRC.
Construction of the inland sections is backed by a massive $2.33 Billion syndicated loan facility arranged by Standard Chartered, with backing from Danish (EKF) and Swedish (SEK) export credit agencies to keep Phase II moving fast having now Lot 1& 2 of the project fully operational.
Lot 5 (Isaka to Mwanza) has crossed the 65% completion mark, connecting the line to Lake Victoria from Dar es Salaam Port. Meanwhile, the massive 506-km Lot 6 (Tabora to Kigoma) has officially broken ground and stands at just over 10% overall completion with a target to be fully operational by June 2030.
The crown jewel of Lot 6 is the 465-meter Malagarasi Bridge. Reaching over 80% completion, this heavy-duty bridge is engineered to handle 120 km/h electric freight trains cutting straight through soft, challenging marshlands.
From western Tanzania, the route splits. A 282-km spur will run from Uvinza into Burundi (Musongati/Gitega), while the Kigoma terminal will serve as a massive maritime gateway across Lake Tanganyika to enter eastern DRC ports like Kalemie.

This is the experience Tanzania is working to bring to life through Zanzibar’s ambitious Fumba Sports City project ahead of AFCON 2027.
Valued at approximately $150 million (TZS 389 billion), the development goes far beyond a conventional football stadium. Designed as a modern sports and entertainment destination, it features a 36,500-seat arena, training facilities, swimming pools, a diving pool and a dedicated 4,000-capacity Fan Zone.
What makes Fumba particularly fascinating is its integration with Zanzibar’s coastal environment. A new passenger port is being developed to accommodate boats transporting spectators near the stadium, while upgraded road networks will improve accessibility.
Picture international supporters combining Zanzibar’s world-famous beaches, luxury hospitality and African football in one destination. That is the cinematic experience Fumba promises.
As of today, stadium construction is at approximately 87% completion, with the government targeting December 31, 2026.
The stadium is designed by internationally recognised AFL Architects, the wider development is intended to accommodate football, concerts, conferences and major entertainment events, potentially transforming Fumba into a year-round destination.

BREAKING: Russia’s Rosatom targets four African countries to help them biuld nuclear power plants (Togo, Tanzania, Eagypt, and Namibia) according to statement by the company's cheif executive.
Rosatom is currently building Egypt's first nuclear power plant, El Dabaa, which will become the second nuclear power station on the African continent after South Africa's Koeberg plant, built using French technology in the mid-1980s.
The project comprises four 1,200-MW power units with Russian-designed VVER-1200 reactors. Also the Corporation according to Rosatom Chief Executive Alexei Likhachev is also operating a first ever EAC's Neuclear plant in Mwaju River, Southern Tanzania.
Rosatom told reporters the company is in advanced discussions on potential floating nuclear power plant projects with those four countries and full execution is set for the coming early 2027.
The prospect of deploying floating nuclear power plants in Egypt could also gain momentum following a meeting between the presidents of Russia and Egypt scheduled for Wednesday, as Rosatom.
Rosatom is offering floating power units with a capacity of 100 megawatts with RITM-200M reactors adapted for warm climates.

BREAKING: Russia & Tanzania have Launched a Joint Space Program
According to Roscosmos Director General Dmitry Bakanov Russia signed a strategic partnership memorandum with Tanzania’s ICT Ministry Permanent Secretary, Muhammed Khamis Abdulla.
Accordingly, Russia will assist in building the African country’s space infrastructure, establishing a space agency, and training specialists.
This means, the first Tanzanian Earth remote-sensing satellite will be launched by Russia in March next year.

Ninaamini kuna mambo yanayoendelea ndani ya wizara hii ambayo yanahitaji kufuatiliwa kwa umakini mkubwa. Hii ni sekta inayogusa maisha ya kila Mtanzania, uchumi, afya ya umma na maendeleo ya taifa kwa ujumla.
Ni muhimu kujiuliza, Je, fedha zinazotengwa kwa ajili ya miradi ya maji zinatumika kwa ufanisi ? Je, miradi inayotekelezwa inatoa thamani halisi ya fedha zilizotumika ? Je, kuna uwazi na uwajibikaji wa kutosha katika usimamizi wa miradi hiyo ?
Kuna siku nchi inaweza kushtuka kutokana na mambo yanayoendelea katika sekta hii ambayo hayajapewa uangalizi unaostahili. Ndiyo maana ni wakati wa kuanza kuifuatilia Wizara ya Maji kwa jicho kali zaidi, tukitaka majibu, uwazi na uwajibikaji.
Maji ni uhai. Usimamizi wa sekta hii haupaswi kuchukuliwa kama jambo la kawaida, wala kuachwa bila uchunguzi wa kina. Wananchi wanastahili kujua kinachoendelea, fedha za umma zinavyotumika na matokeo yanayopatikana.
Kwa mtazamo wangu, hali si nzuri zaidi. Ni wakati wa kuipa sekta hii uangalizi mkubwa unaostahili kabla hatujalazimika kujiuliza kwa nini tulipuuza ishara zilizokuwepo.
Kila shilingi inayotengwa kwa ajili ya maji lazima iwe na matokeo yanayoonekana katika maisha ya wananchi.

Dar es Salaam needs a dedicated City Council with the authority, capacity, and resources to coordinate urban development, infrastructure, traffic management, waste disposal, and other citywide services effectively.
It is time to reconsider the current structure and restore a fully functional Dar es Salaam City Council to meet the needs of this growing metropolis. IIala haiwezi pressure za jiji lote hili.
