This is such a bleak story about what it's like to try to land a job right now. nytimes.com/interactive/2026…
This is a really lovely article worth reading even if you're not a Washington Nationals fan or even a baseball fan.
Reminds me of John Feinstein's excellent book about Minor League Baseball: "Where Nobody Knows Your Name."
Matthew LeCroy's job is built around sending player after player where he also wants to go.
That's the life of a AAA manager who still dreams of running a big league club some day.

RIP Sir Patrick Stewart. Always the first person to come to mind when I think "Shakespearean actor". Whether he was playing someone serious or silly, his performance would always grab my attention
A week later and even more pertinent...

I always found it delightful whenever Patrick Stewart would reprise his role as Captain Jean-Luc Picard in shows like Family Guy or Robot Chicken because it always sounds like he's having the time of his life parodying himself

Hi, I'm free.
Beat up but fine. Police stole my phone. Settlers punched me in the face several times, likely broke @AdeleShoko's wrist and gave @the_andrey_x a concussion. They threatened to shoot us with an assault rifle over and over.
Will tell the full story later, but for now, I just want to be clear about what happened. We witnessed two settlers locking a military gate in Umm al-Khair, blocking the only way to more than twenty Palestinian communities: trapping families inside, preventing students from reaching school and workers from their jobs, blocking delivery of food and access to ambulances, etc.
It's a crime that the military has this ability at all--but last night, we discovered that random settler terrorists also have the key. We confronted them and began asking questions on camera, and they nearly murdered us for it. When the police finally arrived, they arrested Andrey and me and charged us with assault.
The gate is still locked.

What I love about playoff baseball is how much the smallest things seem to matter. Batter is safe after running out a potential double play. Next hitter drives him in.

BREAKING: Saudi Arabia has issued early warning alerts from Yanbu and Jeddah in is what is likely a forthcoming multi-hour barrage from Ansar Allah (Houthis) that will likely target Riyadh as well.
There has been a significant uptick in Ansar Allah launches against Saudi in the last 72 hours, and as the U.S./Iran War (particularly after the Israeli elections are unlikely to bring a non-Netanyahu result), Ansar Allah is actively incentivized to keep the pedal to the metal here the next few weeks.
Very bad combination for the global energy markets.

OK but what does a longtime Cheesecake Factory designer think of Obama's comparison to Trump's White House?
I asked him:

Replying to @NajiChill
In spite of the comments on here, I agree w/ you that Ryan is in the "best of the rest" convo this year. Foster is THE pick, and then Dubois, Inoue, Benavidez and Ryan, however the order. I guess Dalton Smith as well, if you're British.

The idea anyone would need a set number of fights to be the fighter of a given year is silly thinking. Most guys win it for a particular fight anyways even with more activity. Like Holyfield wouldn’t have been FOTY 96 without Czyz?
