Visual ethnographer, Astronomy. Curious what we 'do' not what we 'think' we do. (Dark matter, dark skies, darker side of satellites) Feeling ecological grief.

Listening to @BBCNews this evening. And the newsroom doesn’t know the difference between astrology and astronomy . Seems astrologists are complaining about starlink blinding their telescopes. I’m 😀 but my astrophysics colleagues won’t be … 😤

You couldn't make it up.
It didn't survive its injuries.

⛓️ To give you a sense of how horrifying and brutal these prison sentences for #JustStopOil activists are:
Average sentence for violent crime = 1.7 years.
Average sentence for the JSO activists = 4.3 years.

Bad debate nights happen. Trust me, I know. But this election is still a choice between someone who has fought for ordinary folks his entire life and someone who only cares about himself. Between someone who tells the truth; who knows right from wrong and will give it to the American people straight — and someone who lies through his teeth for his own benefit. Last night didn’t change that, and it’s why so much is at stake in November. joebiden.com

Have you noticed fewer swifts this year too? With their numbers in free fall, help us stop this downward trajectory, before we lose swifts from Sheffield skies forever
Not taking an official position on controversial public policy issues … too often supports the status quo, albeit silently. Taking a position doesn’t mean there can’t be open rigorous thoughtful debate on a topic.
BREAKING: Harvard announced on Tuesday that the University and its leadership will refrain from taking official positions on controversial public policy issues.

This year our swift population will reduce by an estimated TEN THOUSAND breeding birds &/ the population will lose its ability to replenish itself by up to 15,000 chicks. The govt is ignoring #swifts plight despite a simple, urgent & essential solution backed by all experts.

Knowledge well established. Not new to primatologists working in the wild/older cultures that respected all sentient beings. Non-humans are not inferior to us nor are they our slaves to do with as we wish - test drugs on, treat as utilitarian objects, farmed without compassion.
