Jeremy: Oh, sure. You set it to twenty-three, it'll be pootering along, "Oh, yeah, twenty-three? Easy, yeah, nearly there." Wouldn't you rather, "Fuck, twenty-nine! Christ let's get cracking! Gotta generate some serious heat!"

funny that peter hitchens' journalism inspired people who neither read it nor understood it. podcasts with ""culturally christian"" nodding heads, hoping that someone will listen; but they never have and never will. many such cases. trapped between racialists and hyperliberals.
.@cfdownes We sixties veterans remember the US officer who destroyed a village in Vietnam 'in order to save it'. I doubt you have any clue what your ideas would mean in practice. Few teeenagers do. If you get your way, others will need to forgive you, for quite a lot.
sorry for conservaposting. his specific situation here struck familiar to me though in broad strokes. i remember watching his poetry recital as a child on a bbc political panel, and i agree with him more here than other culture writing (incl hitchens' own) youtu.be/BHoAQW_DBI4?si=JLYU…
since my tl is talking about 'ran';
honestly, this film has one of the most impactful title cards i've ever seen in a film. the pure energy and murderous intent in nakadai's eyes, the cut to symbolise the kill itself. no matter how many times i watch it i will never tire of it.
finally watched jeanne dielman, it was great!

this is true. i also think of it as a generational shift. we're now no longer living in a world where blockbuster cinema is defined by spielberg etc., but the successors of their successors. we lose understanding of kurosawa's importance and formal mastery in the process
