We submitted this response to @Jerusalem_Post on 30 September, addressing an opinion piece by @TinaGhazimorad, communications director to @PahlaviReza. After a week without a reply, we are publishing it independently.

Anonymity and verification are not mutually exclusive. Political prisoners may have compelling reasons to remain unnamed. But when a public statement claims the endorsement of 133 political prisoners and activists, there should be an independently auditable basis for that figure. The identities don’t need to be made public: an independent third party can confidentially verify the signatories, their consent to the statement, and the methodology used to establish the count. In the absence of either names or a disclosed verification process, the claim cannot be independently fact-checked.

⚠️ Warning: Risks to Iran’s Cultural Heritage The Forensic Archive of Iran raises concerns about the public heritage database of the “Iran Heritage Unit” @IranHeritageCo initiative supported by @PahlaviReza. The platform publishes named sites, vulnerability ratings, and descriptions of threats—including illicit excavation and theft—alongside counts of “mirasbans” pledged to protect them. Our finding is clear: the platform publishes potentially sensitive vulnerability information without demonstrating proportionate safeguards or a trained protection system. Collecting this information in one searchable public database can make vulnerable heritage easier to identify and target. Information does not become harmless simply because some of it was already public. A “zero mirasbans” count can create the misleading impression that a site is unprotected, even though relevant authorities may already be monitoring it. Mobilising volunteers without clearly defined responsibilities or coordination with existing custodians risks creating competing claims of authority and potentially dangerous confrontations at heritage sites. A click, a badge, and a downloadable certificate do not establish protective capacity. A website tutorial does not provide conservation or emergency-response training. For comparison, EAMENA restricts public access to precise coordinates and site-condition data. Its published access policy illustrates why sensitive heritage information requires safeguards. We are identifying a foreseeable risk of facilitating looting and subsequent illicit trafficking.
