In elite cycling, victory is often measured in fractions of a second. 🚴🏆
While the race is always won by the athletes, it could be lost months before in front of the computer.
As the 113th #TourDeFrance gets ready to set off from Barcelona, we've invited experts from @GroupamaFDJ and @HeriotWattUni to give their perspective on the power of details in three upcoming webinars.

Are you running a marathon this year? 🏃 The position you're running in matters. In a well-positioned group, a marathon runner could experience up to a 90% reduction in aerodynamic drag, conserve energy and improve their time.
By applying aerospace technology to performance sports, a new study led by Heriot-Watt University and @Synopsys shows how, under the right aerodynamic conditions, runners could improve their race time by 30-40 seconds.
Good luck to all the runners at #LondonMarathon this weekend!

Interesting honesty: sciencedirect.com/science/ar…:
"Although field observations report a trend for endurance athletes to consume (and experiment with) higher rates of CHO ingestion during training and racing (i.e. 120 -200g/hr), the efficacy of such doses is not yet substantiated by current scientific research".
Pretty much what we also concluded
academic.oup.com/edrv/advanc….
Which is really quite interesting given the number of laboratories actively researching this topic (as indicated by the recently published review).
So the "science" behind the promotion of CHO ingestion rates of 120-200g/hr during exercise is largely based on a model that, well, such high rates of ingestion have so many beneficial effects - improved running "economy" and higher rates of CHO oxidation, for example - that they must be especially beneficial. And, of course, all the cleverest athletes are doing it.
The reality is that good science demands more than just the expression of logical hope.
