Makerspace + Hack the Badge = two of my favourite activities at #GitHubUniverse! 🚀 Couldn't stop hacking when I got home. Now I can control the Octolamp from my conference badge over my home network. The fun doesn't end when the conference is over!

After we shipped PR limits, you asked for more control over who they apply to. Now you can apply limits only to contributors who don’t meet your account age or merged PR history thresholds. Quick demo below 👇
Replying to @moraes_c_ @github
This is a good start. I’d still like a way to say “automatically allow PRs from people who have had at least X PRs merged already.”

GitHub just shipped exemption rules for pull request limits. Automatically let established contributors open PRs beyond your limit, by account age or merged PRs. Here's how to configure it.

aaaandd @githubuniverse is over and i hate it. it honestly feels like it was never supposed to end 🥹😔 everyone here is so brilliant and so kind. being around these people changes you, every year you leave as a different person. every year i wait for universe like a kid waiting for summer break. it's the best and craziest developer event in the world! period. (computers as badges, think about it) huge thanks to every single @github hubber (every of them) who made this happen. you treated us github stars like actual stars and made us feel truly valued ❤️ see you next year, universe! 😭

The internet is a pretty magical place. One day, you're collaborating with someone through issues, PRs and GitHub discussions. The next, you're standing next to them at @github Universe, talking about everything except code. A few days of good conversations, familiar faces, new friendships and endless inspiration. Open source is really just people finding each other through things they love building. And I think that's beautiful 🖤

The @github engineering team built a best-in-class, truly multi-model harness, which we've implemented across Microsoft products. Introducing Microsoft Copilot harness in Foundry Agent Service, a simpler way to build agents without rebuilding the execution layer. It handles orchestration, tools, context, and controls so you can focus on your agent’s skills and outcomes. Watch @jeffhollan's demo to see it in action.

GitHub has released Copilot Fusion in GitHub Copilot, which orchestrates between Anthropic and OpenAI models. It scores 2 points below Opus 5.5 in Claude Code at half the Cost per Task in the Coding Agent Index GitHub describes Copilot Fusion as a runtime orchestration system, which selects and coordinates models to optimize performance, cost, and latency for each task. Copilot Fusion chooses between a number of models from Anthropic and OpenAI, including Claude Opus 5.5, Claude Sonnet 5.5, GPT-6 Astra, and GPT-6 Sol. We benchmarked its max setting in GitHub Copilot CLI in the Artificial Analysis Coding Agent Index v2.0. Token costs are charged based on the underlying models used to complete a request. Key takeaways: ➤ Cost-efficient for near-frontier performance: Copilot Fusion in GitHub Copilot costs $5.59 per task, versus $11.42 for Claude Code with Opus 5.5 (max). Devin Fusion with Opus 5.5 (max) + GPT-6 Luna (high) scores 62 at $8.00 per task. ➤ Slight lead in Terminal-Bench 4.0: The Coding Agent Index v2.0 weights its three constituent benchmarks equally. Copilot Fusion in GitHub Copilot leads Terminal-Bench 4.0 with a score of 71. It ranks third on FrontierCode in the chart at 51, behind Claude Code with Opus 5.5 (max) at 56 and Devin Fusion with Opus 5.5 (max) + GPT-6 Luna (high) at 54. Its SWE-Atlas-QnA-AA score lags at 57, between GPT-6 Astra in Codex and Gemini 4 Argon in Antigravity CLI. ➤ Half the token use of Opus 5.5 in Claude Code: GitHub Copilot Fusion used 7.2M tokens per task in the Coding Agent Index, approximately half of the tokens used by Claude Opus 5.5 in Claude Code, and 30% less than Devin Fusion with Opus 5.5 (max) + GPT-6 Luna (high).

We sold out in-person tickets this year, but hoping you can still show me what you got. I’ve got a few extra customizable GitHub keyboards that we’ll ship to three people who can build a wild custom canvas that makes their workday better in the GitHub Copilot app. May the odds be ever in your favor. 😄

Spent the weekend testing out our new Universe badges with my son. He gave it a 10/10. RP2350 on MicroPython, 2.8" TFT, accelerometer that auto-flips the screen, capacitive gaming controls, and an AGENTS.md so Copilot can code + deploy to it. 🤓

We worked with maintainers, including @tianzhouchen, to build a better way to track GitHub stars over time. The new API returns daily star counts without exposing who starred a project, making star history easier to retrieve, cheaper to serve, and more private. Here's how we built it: github.blog/engineering/arch…
