Great work Roberto highlighting glyphosate is best used alone rather than with spikes on ryegrass!!
Follow the thread for the finer details on why gly works best alone yet Grp 14 + paraquat or glufosinate + spikes are effective knockdowns @WeedSmartAU
Mild dry spring + subsoil 💦 ideal for canola grain fill. Minimal late season disease after blackleg blowout in winter.
Yellow-green pods but plenty of coloured seeds. Firm pods in 2026 allow windrowing @ >50% colour. Again there is a big diff. in varieties with pod shattering.
The faces of #diversefarms ‘26 - thanks to all our co-operators, speakers & attendees on great discussions this year.
🫛Strong focus on pulses - soil acidity, harvest logistics, inoculation & legacy effects.

A great thread for anyone looking at OSST options for small-medium scale operations. @WeedSmartAU
Neo barley in the MRZ coming home with the mild October temps.
Has taken more leaf rust & net blotch than Maximus. Neo grain size looking dicky during the dry Sept but filling well now.
Canopy mgt another big learning with Neo, low plant pop & no N early for ✅ grain size.
Some big faba crops this year, already lodged so windrowing will be a viable option. Easier to manipulate the canopy with the reel when green rather than at harvest.
Everyone worries about rain on windrowed beans, but dropping onto dry soil helps & it improves harvest timing.
Is it worth windrowing faba beans? Possibly.
Much easier to pick timing compared with canola and the crop can be surprisingly green when ready.

The CSIRO/NSWDPI/Adviser & Diverse Farms Teams cordially invite you to the“End of Project” Field Day at our Greenethorpe FS site on 7th Oct.
So, please join us to discuss summarised results & outcomes from a range of topics following 9yrs of farming systems experiments.
A big thanks to @brill_ag for insights at Grassroots Ag spring farmwalk. Another quality trial on faba P rates, sowing times & new varieties. 10t lentil biomass was incredible.
Thanks to the Curry family & @karrawarra for their time on vetch grazing mixes & feedlotting lambs

Greg Rummery says no-till farming, stubble retention and a zero tolerance of weeds in fallow have expanded the typical ‘bucket size’ in the Walgett area from 180 mm to 240 mm of water-holding capacity. 📷 Outlook Ag

Join our next webinar for a masterclass on stopping broadleaf weed seed set in lentils, from now until harvest.
Hear from @CropDoctor54 and @DMAg_consultant on shielded spraying, weed wiping, chemical fallowing + desiccation.

The power of crop competition, blocked run @ sowing = 15” rows = ⬆️ ryegrass ⬆️ tillers ⬆️seedset.
Meanwhile ryegrass under 7.5” row wheat + drying profile = ⬇️ tillers ⬇️ biomass & struggling to seed.
Therefore tactical hay cut to stop seedset.

Vetch powering into spring with flowers, nodules & plenty of biomass. Expecting solid N fixation for future seasons. Surprisingly a low pressure year for diseases such as grey mould.
Growers now pulling the lever on cutting for hay, spray fallowing or running through to grain.
The Diverse Farms Pulse Roadtrip heads south this Thursday 🛻🛻… Jerilderie to Urana 🌱🤙
@theGRDC #diversefarms
Big year for wild oats, a few surprises popping up in wheat. Resistance to Fops & Dens holding back selective spraytopping applications.
Early Imi programs have worked well in barley, paddocks now very clean. Follow up with pulse then canola for a triple break.

What a week…
3 days
Over 300 attendees.
Weedsmart Week, Griffith NSW.
Some would say the best one yet 😉.
Massive thanks to all our speakers and farm hosts, many who went out of their comfort zone to share insights into their farming systems.

A bitter pill to swallow when nodulation failure occurs in pulses. This block of fabas was timely sown into moisture in April. pH of 4.7-5 but the rhizobia did not fire potentially due to a shelf life issue. Crop will yield poorly & miss out on legacy N for the next 2-3 years.
Barley kicking into gear after another handy rain in southern NSW. Profile now full on decile 4 GSR & set for a solid finish. No room for weeds on 165mm (6.5”) rows, sown into stripper stubble with nil pre em, clean up any grass weeds in the pulse next year @WeedSmartAU #cropcomp
