I’ve always believed coaching is about a lot more than baseball. I love baseball. I’d argue I love coaching it more than just about anybody. But what I love most is the opportunity to make a difference in these kids’ lives. Yes, we want to win. Yes, we want to get better every day. But these boys are going to be people long after their playing days are over. My job is to hold them accountable, push them, build relationships, and teach them how to respond when things don’t go their way. Control what you can control. Do things the right way. Be a good teammate. Be somebody people can count on. In the Army, I’ve learned leadership is about people. Setting the standard, leading by example, and caring enough to have the hard conversations. Baseball gives me the platform. What I do with it is what matters. If they leave better baseball players, that’s great. If they leave better sons, brothers, students, men, better teammates, and better people, then I’ve done something that matters. We’re just getting started, come on.

Heres a great one for the youth players getting warmed up to throw. This is little snippet of what’s to come soon.. 🚀

The Brewers are being celebrated like they invented baseball. They are doing things that have become unusual. They have an old school tough manager who players love playing for. They focus on basic easy to understand basic fundamentals. They have a hitting coach that was an overachieving player for skill that played in the big leagues. They hit the ball the other way. They value putting the ball in play. They adjust their approach based on situation and count. They are not addicted to exit velocity and launch angle bullshit. They bunt and steal bases. They do not have selfish superstars that need to be treated like celebrities. The Brewers simply play the game how it was meant to be played.

This morning at NE HS, the students spelled out QB1 to support Jalen Hurts. Jalen donated $600K to the HS last month to fund new air conditioning.

Harper just told me he likes Hulk Hogan over John Cena. Smiled a little on the inside because 3-year-old Little Greg would’ve made the same choice. But I’m 43 now. I’ve officially switched my membership from the Hulkamaniacs to Cenation. Brother, times change. 🇺🇸

Bandits giving back! ❤️ A few familiar faces showed up to volunteer at this weekend’s JG3 5K & 1-Mile Fun Walk in support of former Bandit John Gendek! We’re proud to see our Bandits giving back to the community and supporting such a meaningful cause.

2-2 on the weekend. Lost 5-2 in the semifinals. Proud of these boys. We battled all weekend and never stopped fighting. That’s all you can ask for. We’re getting better, and we’re learning. I love this shit.

Won 22-2 this afternoon and lost a tough one 6-5 tonight after being up 5-1 going into the last inning. That one hurts, but that’s baseball. Lesson learned.

13U coaches, when evaluating a player, what carries the most weight for you? Do you take the kid with the best tools, the highest baseball IQ, the best athlete, or the kid who competes, listens, and makes everyone around him better? You can teach skills, but can you teach competitiveness, coachability, and baseball IQ? Curious to hear what other coaches prioritize and what makes you say, “That’s a kid I want on my team.”

YOU WENT IN FOR A HAIRCUT AND CAME OUT WONDERING IF YOU’D JUST LOST A FIGHT. 🇺🇸 GWOT vets—remember the barber shop on the FOB? “Just a medium fade.” He nodded. You nodded. Neither one of you knew what the other meant. The haircut was done. Then came the head slaps, forehead rub, and a neck twist you definitely didn’t ask for. Your buddies were outside laughing. Not one of them had warned you. You paid, said “thank you,” and went back the next week. @Boots_N_Chutes @cmrowe77 👇 WHO ELSE GOT THE FULL TREATMENT AT THE FOB BARBER SHOP? #GWOT #Veterans #Deployment

Ridiculous how much baseball we’ve had cancelled this fall because of “rain.” I get it, nobody wants to ruin the fields, but come on. These kids want to play. Families are planning their weekends around this stuff. At some point, we have to find a way to get these kids on the field. It’s fall baseball, not a groundskeeping competition.

Between the Brewers and the Rays they’re setting an example to everyone else. They’re doing it without money, with fundamentals, defense, pitching and a great manager and pitching coach to lead the guys.

Chasing velocity started in MLB, moved to college baseball, then trickled down to high school and youth baseball. I firmly believe chasing velo and improper plyo ball use at young ages have contributed to the rise in Tommy John injuries. Disagree all you want. I stand by it.

You can’t control what others say or do. You can control the man you are and the father you choose to be. Fatherhood isn’t about winning against their mother. It’s about making sure your kids never have to question whether their dad loves them.

Jalen Hurts on if he agreed with Nick Sirianni's decisions late in the game: "It's not my place. I'm prepared as a QB to not worry about those things. I honor the play call, honor the things that come into the game. When I'm up at night I think 'Should I have said something?' but ultimately there's a commitment to going out there and executing."
