The greatest poem ever written is the Iliad. There is simply no question. The only challenge for each reader, whenever and wherever, is to find their own route to seeing how and why that is the truth.
(It took me 22 years from first read.)

There were good arguments in 2016 for staying in the EU.
The Remain campaign made a mess of articulating them. There are no good reasons in 2026 for rejoining the EU. dailymail.com/debate/article… via @DailyMail

I head back to the country most weekends and every time there seem to be more pubs with For Sale signs outside. Crushed by rising NI hikes, punitive business rates and soaring energy bills.

This photograph shows the 16th-century timber-framed Old Dick Whittington public house at 24 Cloth Fair.
It became a beerhouse in 1848, although later claimed to be the oldest licensed premises in London. The Corporation of London acquired the pub in 1916 and soon demolished it.

Paramedics & ambulances have been under attack in #Lebanon for nearly a month now. <100 medics have been killed in #Israel’i army strikes, and dozens of medical facilities damaged. And a reminder: the country’s paramedics and civil defense first responders are unpaid volunteers.
Lebanese volunteers raised $15,000 for an ambulance that was bombed 4 days after it was delivered to rescuers. A second ambulance they crowdfunded was almost destroyed on Wednesday, a day after it was sent to #Nabatiyeh. Now they are raising money for a 3rd, hoping it can last on the road under Israeli strikes.

Nothing is more emblematic of the West’s hypocrisy than gathering together to praise the values of freedom and peace as their weapons slaughter civilians in real time, in an ongoing genocide they support.
