feels pretty obvious that the lack of funding for zany early ideas because of the structure of venture and the crowding into winners that people are bemoaning will be solved by the new zillions of centimillionaire angels.

I have an entire folder dedicated to gratitude/reframing perspective, or to quote @majamediaco, "hope core" tweets.

twitter is the spikiest object in my life. this platform has exposed me to opportunities and friends that have changed my life in incredible ways. it's also absorbed thousands of hours of my youth on completely mindless doomscrolling. i have no clue what to do about it

The most original, absurd, and (definitely the) weirdest film I've seen all year. I wanted to look away. I couldn't look away.

Definitely an n of 1 film, and I'm glad it exists in the world because cinema needs more variance. It's as original/texturally interesting as "The Fall."
Easily the most beautiful film I've seen all year. Roger Ebert was right: "There will never be another like it."

Agree. We're also constantly changing and updating our "knowledge base" as we journey through life.

Keith Johnstone says that status experts raise and lower their status with great skill. I believe a "taste expert" (not in the overused sense) does the same. I.e., great taste embodies both high and low, knowing when each is called for. Roger Ebert was a master at this:

There are expert status players everywhere for those with the eyes to see.

Another fav example comes from Every Frame a Painting, specifically their video on "F for Fake." Quite ironic (& hilarious) that their entire YouTube channel (a supposedly lowbrow medium) was inspired by Orson Welles, one of cinema's great masters. youtu.be/1GXv2C7vwX0?si=MfXk…

Sorry, but I don't fully trust anyone's "taste" (an incredibly tired-out word) until I know what uncool, unpopular, out-of-zeitgeist things they're willing to ride for.

Time to rediscover the imaginative response in my adult-self, while "refinding" the power of my child-like creativity.

(Image 1) is such a fascinating exchange because I thought the person was being helpful...but apparently that's increasing your status? And the idea that the message is modified by the receiver. Oof.

Q: "If status can't even be got rid of, then what happens between friends?" A: "Acquaintances become friends when they agree to play status games together."
