A small step in the right direction. The right DIRECTION is towards the abolition of slaughter altogether! No sentient, sapient animal needs to be murdered to meet human health requirements. We are not wolves or lions. We have perfectly adequate alternatives from plants.
Time for the rest of the UK to do the same !

They are NEEDED already, as beautiful free beings, running free, NOT as slaves, not in rice paddies, not in circuses, not pulling carriages for tourists, & not as "meat". Rice paddies are exactly the kind of places they can be freed from slavery by machines.
Yes, it does. But it involves far more than the White-washing of history. It's the systematic inculcation of discipline by teachers today so kids will later accept discipline imposed by capitalist bosses.
Yeah, but they can only be read online. We need to be able to download them as pdf's or ebooks!

"The West" is a mythical cultural entity; it never was, still isn't & never will be, despite the best efforts of racists.
It's called the transhumance & it's usually shepherds & their dogs bringing sheep or goats down before winter sets in. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transh…
I was working at the OEO shortly after the Watts uprising in the 1960s w/economists who WERE discussing how much relief, e.g., food stamps, could be given that would stave off further uprisings but without undermining the "incentive" of poverty to work.
No one in West Papua deserves to be exploited by Indonesians & the multinational corporations they allow to ravage the land & displace people.

"Billionaires" describes high income. The real problem is capitalism that generates wealth & poverty & forces us to work producing crap rather than what we need. Forget billionaires, fight capitalists, no matter how much they earn or how much wealth they pile up.

The refusal to work, either entirely or partially (slowdowns, absenteeism, playing on the job), ruptures not only production & profits but capitalist control over our lives. Try it, esp. w/friends. You'll find creativity in refusal a very satisfying assertion of autonomy.
Better: refuse the very capitalist view that our bodies are our "capital". Capitalists force us to sell our ability & willingness to work (or at least the illusion) but we are more than that sale & can often use our bodies in many different ways to fight being force to sell.
Maybe, maybe not; it's hard to know what people are thinking silently. Even if they do, it doesn't justify their amassing of immense wealth in the presence of widespread poverty. It never has: la.utexas.edu/users/hcleaver… - la.utexas.edu/users/hcleaver… - la.utexas.edu/users/hcleaver…
Given its previous history, I'm sure the military-industrial-complex Ike spoke of would have found an enemy somewhere, anywhere, to justify its contracts, profits & growth.

If it wasn't for the Soviet example and threat, the United States would be a total shithole. Until Eisenhower, it didn't even have decent roads
"Market-driven" = capitalism, but that's Polanyi or market-worshippers. Markets are only the FORM through which capitalism imposes endless work, subordinating everyone's life to commodity production. It gave the world colonialism & the millions murdered or left to starve.

Your dismissal of market arguments as Cold War rhetoric is itself the outdated claim—
Look at the actual material record:
Market-driven capital accumulation has lifted far more people out of poverty than redistribution of a fixed pie. (ask any A.I., or look it up yourself).
Inequality exists. And helping the poor is a good thing. BUT... the effective route runs through growth, incentives, and voluntary exchange rather than political reallocation of wealth. Look at history. Ask any A.I.
@grok, how would Milton Friedman respond to the claim that most wealth is used for "speculation," not actual investment? (Grok's answer should be in the replies to this comment)
Sad, out-of-date Cold War rhetoric & myths. The complaint about billionaires these days - a "liberal" complaint - is that they speculate & hoard rather than invest. They are nothing but the high end of capitalist income/wealth hierarchies used to pit people against each other.
Replying to @hmcleaver
Socialist slavery won't eliminate work.
Correct: redistribution is a political issue. Instead of merit or usefulness, the state makes economic decisions based on political whim. That is the problem.
You fucking moron. 🙂
Every "economic system" has been capitalist. Every society requires a lot of different activities. Capitalism reduces them to the work of commodity production & subordinates everyone's life to endless labor, starting in school & ending w/death or real retirement.
