Our poster was accepted to iConference 24 in Changchun, China. We've been meeting every Monday night online as a team since August and I'm so proud of the work these undergraduates are doing. @i3program #ischools

Breakfast with CMU’s @HeinzCollege! i3 develops these partnerships with colleges and universities that have iSchools such as CMU.
As i3 scholars, students have access to scholarships and other opportunities from this partnership!
How many clicks does it take to access your health information as a college student? Health portals center universities, providers, and insurance companies, and when patients are considered, portals are made for a ‘typical user’ rather than BIPOC, disabled, and lgbtq+ users.
Research experiences for undergraduates: Supporting their participants as people and scholars, or just using the labor? I did the reading so you don't have to, and let me tell you, those results are interesting. More to come
Think of your favorite song.
What associations do you have with it? Do you think of a specific person, memory, or lyrics?
Our research aims to explore how people treat those songs as a digital possession, particularly in the context of break-ups.
attn! Do you also hate Adobe?
My team has worked on research about how designers leverage creative software to make designs that represent their professional identity and product. Our findings point to designers manipulating tools to best fit their specific practice.
Here’s a fun thread to start the last week of i3 this summer! The 2022 concluding cohort attend a professional development workshop where they learn how to communicate their work to broader audience.

I got to present a workshop on using intersectionality as a lens in our lives to a group of 25+ students at @i3program!
It was exciting to combine my experiences from @PittTweet, replicate class exercises from @BerkeleyISchool, and lived experiences to share this important info.

The Farewell lunch for our @i3program PhD Fellows (front row). They taught two week modules in Computational Thinking and Research Methods while living with us in the dorms. We’ll miss them as we wrap up next week.
Phew 😮💨 Long sounding week right?
Embedded in our values is also creating a community of these scholars—so don’t worry, we had some bonding events after class from Just Dance, karaoke, League of Legends, and alumni coming through with food for the whole i3 2023 crew!
As students learned about research design & computational tools, listened to potential advisors—many considered their future in graduate studies.
To utilize the collective knowledge in the room, we also had a grad school panel for our fellows & leadership team to answer some Qs!
Last but not least, we had @kaylambooth and @oliverhaimson share their meet cute at Oxford Internet Institute 💚
They shared how their research in intersectional, inclusive co-design overlap to relate to students’ interests as they prepare to be co-advisors this year!
A returning i3 advisor, Dr. Dan Gardner comes back to share his work on inequitable interactions with digital games and technology 💚
Fun fact: Dan was a PhD teaching fellow 2017 and an advisor in 2018 & 2019!
We also had @earlhuffjr and Dr. Angela Smith from @UTRealityLab present their work to co-advise a 2023 team 💚
From inclusive research practices in education spaces to engaging with critical consciousness to solve real-works problems, students were presented a range of topics!
Presenting one of the research advisors, @morganklauss 💚
He shared his work on moderation & safety, values in machine learning, and more. Students were incredibly receptive to their first potential research advisor, asking questions about his working style and related topics!
Between teaching modules, we had 5 groups of research advisors present their work, share project topics students can pursue, and elaborate on their mentorship style
We had our very own @Dr_JoeSan present his work on subcultures online, throwing it back to Second Life ⏪ 💚
We also have Krystal Maughan and Sarah Stueve as 2023 PhD Fellows!
They recognized students’ varying levels of computational tools & thinking—splitting the cohort in two. One learned turtle py while the other used nodes to understand complex reality tv relationships 👀
Every day, we had research design modules taught by @StairwayToPhD and @cassidy_pyle!
From Qual to Quant and Mixed-Methods, our 2023 PhD Fellows showed up each morning engaging students on research design and giving clear examples of design methods
