@Diaspora_KE PS @roselinenjogu today accompanied H.E. Dr. @MusaliaMudavadi, Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, to Parliament to highlight government interventions, measures, and consular processes undertaken for Kenyans caught up in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
Through efforts spearheaded by the State Department for Diaspora Affairs, the Prime Cabinet Secretary briefed members that 62 Kenyans have so far been repatriated from Russia.
He added that, through Kenya's diplomatic engagement with Russia in March this year, the government secured Kenya's inclusion on the "Stop List," aimed at preventing further recruitment of Kenyan citizens into the conflict.
Dr. Mudavadi also reaffirmed ongoing efforts including #DiasporaMashinani initiative, which takes relevant information directly to communities at the grassroots level to strengthen safeguards against fraudulent overseas job offers and deceptive recruitment

The diaspora engagement we mounted on Sunday in New York on the margins of #UNGA81 was exceptional. As usual, the diaspora arrived in dressed to the nines in their vitenge, and bendera colours, ready for a good time. We had presentations on the 5th administration’s signature programs like SHA (and Universal Health Coverage), the Affordable Housing Program, diaspora investment by InvestKenya, and diaspora voting.
We also launched the collaboration on the Kenya Diaspora Impact Platform (K-DIP).
We also heard from the Director General of the IOM, Amy Pope.
The event was crowned by President Ruto’s address to Kenyans living in the US and the Q&A session.
Diaspora is our business! 🙂

The Government of Kenya is formalizing structured engagement with Kenyan professionals in the Diaspora.
This was said at the opening of the Kenyan Nurses Association of America (KNAA) 2026 Annual Nursing Conference in Maryland, held from September 17 to 19 under the theme "Transforming Healthcare Through Nursing Leadership, Innovation and Proactive Safety."
The conference brings together Kenyan nursing and healthcare professionals, along with members of the wider diaspora, in the United States.
Ms. Irene Karari, Director in charge of the Skills and Expertise Division @Diaspora_KE, made the remarks while representing the Diaspora Affairs Principal Secretary, Ms. @roselinenjogu.
In her address, Ms. Karari paid tribute to the contributions of Kenyan nurses abroad, describing them not simply as professionals located outside the country, but as partners in Kenya's development.
"You have demonstrated exceptional professionalism, resilience, dedication and compassion in providing healthcare in highly demanding environments," she said. She noted that their contributions extend far beyond financial remittances to include knowledge transfer, mentorship, research, professional networks, and opportunities for the next generation of healthcare professionals.
To deepen this partnership, Ms. Karari said plans for a structured framework with KNAA, one that would move engagement from dialogue to a sustainable collaboration. The framework will identify clear areas of cooperation, deliverables, and responsibilities, along with mechanisms for monitoring progress. Priority areas include mentorship and capacity building, skills and knowledge transfer, research and innovation, professional development, and healthcare partnerships.
The remarks also underscored the government's commitment to safe and ethical labour mobility, emphasizing that recruitment processes, qualification recognition, decent working conditions, and worker protection must accompany the rising global demand for Kenyan healthcare professionals.
Dr. Jelliah Akombe, Founder and President of KNAA, welcomed the government's participation as the conference's three days of deliberations, networking, and leadership development got underway in Maryland. #MuuguziMajuu

Pleased to welcome H.E. Hon. @Piantedosim , Minister of the Interior of the Italian Republic, to Kenya on his historic first official visit as Italy’s Interior Minister.
Our meeting marked a significant milestone in Kenya–Italy relations with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on Migration and Mobility, ushering in a new era of cooperation founded on mutual respect, shared opportunity, human dignity and well-managed migration.
The Agreement establishes a Government-to-Government framework for regular labour migration, skills development and the protection of migrant workers. It will create structured and transparent pathways for Kenyans seeking employment in Italy, enhance worker welfare, facilitate skills transfer and contribute to Kenya’s economic growth through increased employment opportunities and diaspora remittances.
Beyond labour mobility, we reaffirmed our commitment to expanding cooperation in trade and investment, education, energy, technology, aerospace and tourism, sectors that hold immense potential for job creation, innovation and sustainable development.
As Kenya continues to strengthen its global partnerships, agreements such as this demonstrate how diplomacy translates into tangible opportunities that improve livelihoods, expand economic prospects and create a brighter future for our citizens.

How it started vs how it’s going!
In April in Rome, discussions began on a labor mobility framework between Kenya and Italy. Today that MOU has been signed, paving the way for:
- safe & regular Kazi Majuu framework for Kenyans to Italy
- combating human trafficking, and irregular/illegal migration
- structured labour market synergies.
I’m honored to have led this project 🙏🏾.

Kenya and Italy today have signed a migration and mobility MOU. This MOU creates a structure for Kazi Majuu to Italy, a framework to combat irregular/illegal migration, and to protect the welfare of Kenyans working in Italy. This win-win arrangement synergizes labour market disparities.
