We achieved a world-first! LM26 is the first fusion machine in the world to achieve 1 keV with practical low speed compression. This is a major step forward on General Fusion’s commercialization plan to deliver reliable, economical, clean power from fusion energy.
It’s truly an exciting moment for our team. 1 keV, which is more than 12 million degrees Celsius, was our first major milestone for the LM26 program. We worked with UKAEA to design, install, and commission a gold-standard Thomson scattering system on LM26, giving us an accurate, robust measurement.
We also saw meaningful ion heating, and increased density and magnetic field from the compression – which tells us we’re where we want to be in terms of plasma stability and heating.
All together, the combined results provide further confidence in our core MTF technology principles.
Our CEO Greg Twinney dives into what we achieved, why it matters and what’s next here: generalfusion.com/post/1-kev…

Last week, Senators @SenMikeLee, @SenatorHeinrich, @SenCapito, and @SenWhitehouse introduced the Bipartisan American Affordability and Jobs Act of 2026 to reform the federal environmental review and permitting process.
The Act aims to deliver cheaper energy, more jobs, and economic growth across the US. Alongside other technologies, fusion machines that produce electricity are included within the Act as projects that should receive fair treatment.
Upon returning post-election, the Senate is scheduled to take a procedural vote on the Act on November 9.
FIA supports the legislation with fusion's equal treatment and will work with Congress to see its passage and implementation.

A compact tokamak in China has achieved hydrogen-boron fusion reactions, marking the first time a commercial fusion company has accomplished this on its own device. ENN Group announced that its EXL-50U compact tokamak reached the milestone. Unlike mainstream deuterium-tritium fusion, which releases high-energy neutrons and requires extremely rare and expensive tritium, hydrogen-boron fusion combines a hydrogen proton with a boron-11 nucleus to produce only helium nuclei and energy, with no neutron radiation. The ENN team achieved the result by precisely targeting the "first resonance peak," the energy region where fuel is most reactive, using high-energy neutral beam injection and radio frequency waves rather than uniformly raising plasma temperature. This generated fast protons that triggered a chain reaction pushing the fusion rate beyond 100 million reactions per second. More than 10 international experts reviewed the results and unanimously confirmed the detection of alpha particles as evidence of the fusion reaction. The achievement was described as "a significant and valuable contribution" to global research on magnetic confinement hydrogen-boron fusion. The research is published ahead of ENN's groundbreaking ceremony for its next-generation Helong-2 fusion device.

"We forget that up until the Wright brothers, there were people saying that [flight] was physically impossible — despite the evidence that birds fly."
Fusion is the energy source of the sun and stars and, as CFS CEO and Co-founder @BobMumgaard points out during this chat with @axios, @Livermore_Lab in California proved it can work on Earth, too.
Similar to what the Wright brothers achieved at Kitty Hawk, we're now approaching that moment when fusion "takes flight." CFS plans to turn on our #SPARC machine next year, and shortly after it'll be clear fusion energy is on its way to the power grid.

Today, Type One Energy announced the successful completion of our $200M Series B financing, co-led by @Breakthrough Energy Ventures and Clutterbuck Capital, with participation from new investors including @lowercarbon , @Siemens_Energy Ventures and SiteGround.
With this investment, we’re advancing our FusionDirect™ technology, progressing the design of our 400 MWe Infinity Two power plant at @TVAnews's Bull Run Energy Complex.
The timing is significant as this financing follows Tennessee’s granting of the initial fusion license for Project Infinity, establishing an important regulatory milestone for the project.
With new capital, strategic investors and a growing network of industrial partners, we’re continuing to move Project Infinity forward and building the foundation for fusion power at commercial scale.
We’re excited for what comes next.

In a one-day sprint 10 years ago, researchers at @MIT helped chart the CFS path to commercializing fusion energy — even before CFS was actually founded.
That sprint took place during the last day of service for Alcator C-Mod, a type of fusion machine called a tokamak. C-Mod is the progenitor of the SPARC demonstration machine we’re building today and the ARC power plant we’ve begun designing. And we’re putting the C-Mod lessons to good use.
C-Mod showed that a compact tokamak employing very high magnetic fields is well suited not only for high fusion performance but also for economical power generation. And during that last day, researchers showed three separate paths to high performance in a competition to push the machine as far as it could go. It set a record that stands to this day, unmatched by any other tokamak.
Unmatched until we start running SPARC, that is. The knowledge gained from C-Mod helps propel us to achieving net fusion energy, aka Q>1, with SPARC.

Can't wait!
When I first learned about fusion, I heard what most people hear: tokamaks have received the most funding, but sustaining stable plasmas is extremely challenging; stellarators help with plasma instability, but they can be difficult to engineer and build. And when doing that early research, I, like many people, came away wondering if fusion might be too expensive and slow to be commercially viable, even when we solve the remaining engineering challenges.
But the more I dug in, the more convinced I became that fusions potential is too immense to ignore. And when thinking about the end product: cheap, safe, abundant electricity on the grid, it helped challenge and reframe the problem and all the existing solutions.
So Helion's co-founders and I treated fusion as a product rather than an experiment. We designed with plant and machine operation costs in mind which meant we designed around less infrastructure and less plasma stability requirements (one that doesn't even require ignition!).
Helion does break conventions AND we also build and learn very quickly. We've done a lot of building and learning over the last seven thermonuclear prototypes that very few people in fusion get to do in their careers.
Conventional thinkers don't like it, but we are doing what no one has ever done before. And when there is clean, abundant, safe fusion energy on the grid, it will be worth it.

Fusion energy is often discussed as a matter of plasma physics, funding, and machine design, but bringing commercial fusion to the grid also requires a global industrial base that can manufacture critical components at scale.
Today CFS took an important step toward meeting that need, announcing an agreement to purchase more than 10,000 km (3 GA-m) of high-temperature superconducting (HTS) tape from Fujikura Ltd. It’s the largest single purchase order for HTS tape, a critical component of our breakthrough magnets.
This news is important evidence that our fusion industrial supply chain is taking shape. Our order allows Fujikura to invest in new manufacturing capacity for the long term, stepping up in our global network of more than 1,000 suppliers across 30 countries.
We already built a supply chain for our SPARC fusion demonstration machine, but this agreement helps secure HTS tape for our next chapter: building ARC power plants, starting with our first at the Fall Line Fusion Power Station in Virginia. The ARC effort is moving ahead with design, technology development, and commercialization work like applying to connect that first ARC plant to the grid with PJM Interconnection, the largest U.S. wholesale electricity market.

"You learn things by building things." That's how Rod Bateman, Chief HTS Engineer, sums up our Demo4 high temperature #superconducting (HTS) #fusion #magnet system.
And what a project it's been.
15,000 components. 10,000 hours of system operation. A peak magnetic field of 13.7 Tesla. Demo4 became the first HTS fusion magnet system to achieve magnetic fields relevant to future fusion power plants.
Demo4 was never designed to hold a plasma, but by designing, building and testing a complete fusion magnet system, we've gained the understanding needed to scale up to energy producing fusion devices. And along the way we've established a leading HTS test facility.
As Greg Brittles, Head of Magnets R&D, puts it:
"The fact we were able to predict the performance of Demo4, and then see it perform exactly as expected, has put a huge tick in the box for HTS technology readiness."
It's a big step forwards for a technology that will be fundamental to #fusionenergy, generating the powerful #magnetic fields needed to confine and control plasma.
With testing now complete, we're already putting this learning into practice through our role as Magnet Systems Partner for the UK Government's @STEPtoFusion programme and our work in the UK Infinity Fusion Consortium alongside @typeoneenergy @AECOM.
In this video, the TE Magnetics team behind Demo4 share what it took to deliver, what we learned along the way, and why it matters.

Type One Energy has a new U.S. patent! 🎉
CTO Thomas Sunn Pedersen, and Co-Founder, VP & Engineering Fellow David Anderson recently invented the Large Island Backside Divertor (LIBD) for Type One Energy. This is an innovative (and now patented) approach to solving a long-standing problem that stellarators have faced: inefficiencies in removing impurities. These impurities reduce fusion efficiency and require more frequent component replacement.
The LIBD patent uses large magnetic islands to guide the outflowing unburnt deuterium-tritium fuel for re-injection, fusion ash (helium), and impurities to the backside of a divertor structure embedded into the large island. This approach is designed to improve particle removal efficiency, resulting in more optimal fuel density control and purer plasma to enhance fusion efficiency and more durable components in our stellarator.
Congratulations to Thomas, David, and the entire Type One Energy team!
