Huge thanks to @namespacelabs for the CI sponsorship you provided for axios.rest. Integration was super fast, and CI times for our builds have improved dramatically! Your commitment to OSS is an inspiration!
All the details behind our custom Mac racks 🤠
We unboxed MacBooks in a datacenter and got 27.5M views, plus over 1K comments and questions about it.
So this post covers what we learned running Macs at any scale: how we designed custom MacBook racks, virtualize macOS with Apple's Virtualization framework, and distribute huge VM images across our fleet.
what a time to be alive Ramp just literally matched an expense with a receipt in my email and i didn't do anything at all wow i love software bye
Mind blown.
I spun up 100 Namespace Devboxes, each running as an independent musician with its own instrument and starting tempo, using Strudel's audio engine, Superdough.
All 100 ran in parallel, exchanging beats over the network and adjusting their timing using a rule inspired by the Kuramoto model of coupled oscillators.
After 139 seconds, they found a common beat.

How I Met @NathanFlurry
Amp's @thorstenball says long-running AI requests broke an old rule of web infrastructure, and it forced Amp to rebuild its whole platform.
"We had the whole thing running, and it's like, wait a second. So every time we deploy, we're going to kill all of the requests that are currently going on after 30 seconds?"
"And those requests cost money. You're streaming tokens. If you cancel this, your customer's lost three dollars."
"That was not a good Friday night for me. That was the bottom of the bottom."
"It's not super agent-friendly. You cannot say to the agent, 'Give me all of the logs for this thing.' And we were already all in on agents at this point."
"I tweeted something out: 'Does somebody know of anything like this?' And then I built a prototype over the weekend. I was like, I think we can do this."

Namespace macOS Devboxes + agent-desktop just work.
Spin up a real Mac and have agents work in parallel. Full desktop control.

In some ways, the most boring performance graph we have. In others, the most interesting.

This is massive! Thank you namespace for supporting open-source projects.

Our open source program was our best-kept secret. Until now.

Amp hasn't hired anybody since it was founded. Six months ago, @thorstenball didn't think it was possible.
"Our application is big. And we're still the same amount of people. We haven't hired anybody. We're shipping more than ever."
"The way we work is very much self-directed. It's kind of like a jazz band. We have two meetings a week."
"People have a lot of freedom. So if somebody notices this is bad, then they go and fix it."
"I see junior engineers, people who are 10 years, 15 years younger than me, build incredibly complex features in a distributed system with agents."
"We still get compliments on our UX and polish and taste and personality. And that shouldn't be possible."
