🚨 Today, MPs voted down the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill, which is also known as the assisted dying bill.
This means the Bill will no longer progress through Parliament.

🚨 Palliative and end of life care is in crisis. That can’t be forgotten as the Assisted Dying Bill returned to Parliament today.
We’re not for or against a change in the law. We’re calling on governments across the UK to fix end of life care, so everyone gets the care and support they need in their final days.

Today sees the return of the Terminally Ill Adults Bill to Parliament and I hope we again see a respectful and sensible debate on the key issues involved
At Sue Ryder we are neutral on the subject, but we will never be neutral on the need to improve palliative & end of life care

Grief can remind us that when someone dies, their impact doesn't have to disappear with them. 💙
It can live on. In the parts of ourself that were shaped by knowing, loving or being inspired by someone.

We are pleased to see the Government will be opening new community mental health hubs on high streets.
These have the opportunity address significant gaps in bereavement support and it's essential that this support is built into the services they offer.

The PM said palliative care funding needs fixing. We agree!
Our "ecosystem" model would reform palliative care meaning more people get the support they need. We're here to work with @andyburnham to deliver this but it needs to happen soon. Dying people don't have time to wait.

Our Chief Executive Officer @JamesCSanderson has responded to @andyburnham’s speech on social care this morning.

ALT When people with terminal illness are stuck in hospital, they aren’t thinking about whether it’s social care or health care they need. They just need the system to put the care in place that is right for them. Too often the bureaucracy between health care and social care creates unnecessary delays. It means people die in busy, noisy hospital wards and corridors instead of being surrounded by the people they love, and in the place they most want to be - home. We welcome the Government’s announcement that they want to fix social care. And we are ready to support delivering the reforms needed so that people who are dying receive the end-of-life care they deserve. James Sanderson, Chief Executive, Sue Ryder

We know what good palliative care looks like and how the system can support it. We welcome @DianaJohnsonMP @Alison_McGovern & @JamesFrith into their new roles and look forward to working together to build a new ecosystem for PEoLC – so fewer people miss out on the care they need.

England v Ghana is the World Cup’s only group-stage match where both countries' capitals sit right on the Prime Meridian
England has London, where the Prime Meridian was fixed. Ghana has Accra, the only other world capital to sit on the zero degree longitude line.
