Bad policy, bad character make bad politics: erratic tariffs, impulsive Iran war, blanket pardons, apparent corruption, weaponized justice, ICE brutality, mountainous deficits, hiding Epstein, abandoning allies and coddling enemies. Hoping for a course correction, for the country and for my party.

When I got to Chicago in the summer of 1985, Mike Ditka and the Chicago Bears were king. Coach Ditka set the tone for a team that was punishing, dominant, and fun — and the city loved him for it. I'm thinking of the Ditka family and Bears fans everywhere on the passing of a legend.

This is so good. As a former small-town sports editor, what we did *mattered*. Saturday morning meant a game story - with quotes & reaction - and full boxscores from every game. Previews on Thursdays. Features, coverage of all sports. You knew what was going on in the area.

Thank you Jim Ukrop for the many lessons in how to be. So many of us will never forget what you shared and expected from us. We won’t let you down.
Jim Ukrop’s legacy: He helped build Richmond — and thanked it at the end | Guest column richmond.com/opinion/column/… via @RTDOpinions

Before calling someone a “dirtbag,” the Senator should have had his facts straight. An apology is in order.
Glad one of us knew the difference between the Atlanta Hawks and the Iowa Hawkeyes!

The Ukrop name is still synonymous in Richmond with character and business integrity. Blessings to the entire Ukrop family as you say goodbye to a respected man.

Jim Ukrop leaves behind a large legacy of civic leadership and business acumen, and I know he will be profoundly missed by many in Richmond and across Virginia. He was a steadfast believer in investing in community and public education, and worked for many years on revitalizing Richmond. I join so many Virginians in sending thoughts to his family, friends, and the extensive community he leaves behind.

I am saddened to hear of Jim Ukrop’s passing. As a businessman, philanthropist and civic leader, there was no bigger booster for the City of Richmond.
Jim’s passion for closing the racial divides in the former Capital of the Confederacy knew no limits. A self-described “dot connector,” he loved identifying young talent and connecting them to people who could help them reach their full potential. I am honored to be one of the dots he helped connect over the years, and to have called him a friend.
Godspeed, Jim.
