I don't want to be the bad guy but I also can't help it if people keep messaging me to fact check a post about someone claiming to be the first to do something in my field 🦈 and/or country 🇵🇭 [FYI they're usually not]. #scicomm
I've worked in conservation for 22 yrs. It's disheartening to see there are still foreigners conducting one-off trainings in the Philippines 🇵🇭 with little to no Filipino participants and 0 Filipino experts as resource persons/facilitators. Seems very 🚩 #ColonialScience 1/2
There are many Filipino experts in various fields of science/conservation. They already existed before I started and some of them are still active in their respective fields. The 🇵🇭 deserves to be more than a backdrop for foreign-led conservation activities. #ColonialScience 2/2
Unpopular opinion no one asked for:
Filipino women's teams seem to do really well (if not better) on the global stage than the men's teams, which undoubtedly get more support and attention. #WomenInSports
