It’s with mixed emotions and deep gratitude that I will be leaving USC after 17 years to begin a new exciting chapter @UclaUrology as Director of the Institute of Urologic Oncology and Division Chief of Urologic Oncology. Forever thankful for the trainees, colleagues and patients who have shaped my journey. Grateful to @uroegg and @UCLAHealth leadership for their confidence and vision, and excited to build on their remarkable legacy of excellence.

In 2006 we reported 44 patients with non-muscle-invasive micropapillary bladder cancer treated at MD Anderson. 27 got BCG. At a median 30 months, only 5 of them were disease-free with their bladder in place.
Twenty years on, we went back to the literature to ask whether that picture still holds. New meta-analysis in @EurUrolOncol

No difference in recurrence: TURBT vs EBTUR. Only better substaging (cT1).
More data on en bloc TURBT showing no difference in long-term #bladdercancer outcomes. Reminds me of the robot for cystectomy. I like it. I do it. But to say it makes things that much better for patients is a probably a bit of a stretch. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/4254…
