I completely forgot I wrote this. And my oh my how well it aged
I didn’t vote for Zohran Mamdani, and I’m done pretending that needs an apology. I made a decision a long time ago to never vote for a Democrat again. The Democratic Party has been complicit in the genocide of Palestinians long before October 7. This isn’t new. Refaat Alareer, may Allah SWT grant him paradise, spelled this out clearly. What keeps shocking me is how often people in the movement still fall for it.
I keep hearing that Democrats are different at the local level. That’s the lie that keeps the whole imperial machine alive. The Democratic Party isn’t reformed from the bottom. It feeds off it. Local races are how the party launders legitimacy. They dress it up with young faces, Muslim names, and progressive language, then send those politicians to discipline the movement once they’re in power.
Someone like Mamdani shows up with a few good lines and suddenly everything shifts. Grassroots organizing turns into campaigning. External pressure turns into compliance. Resistance turns into door knocking. If you refuse, you’re called divisive or unrealistic. The movement gets rerouted into elections and personal comfort, right when liberation requires confrontation, not accommodation.
Then comes the absorption. People from the movement run for office, join transition teams, advisory boards, and closed rooms. They call it strategy. It’s not strategy. It’s containment. Accountability disappears because no one wants to risk access they think they have. Condemnation statements go unsigned. Criticism gets muted, or attacked. The concept of liberation is disappeared so careers can be protected.
We’ve seen this before. This is exactly what they did to the Black liberation movement. Exactly what they did to Indigenous resistance. Transformative and principled demands get softened into slogans. Politicians talk like organizers until they get elected, then govern like Democrats. Every time.
The deal is always the same. You get symbolic wins and a little comfort here, while violence continues elsewhere. Palestinians pay. Native Americans pay. The global South pays. That is the cost of Democratic “progress.”
I’m not interested in that deal. Liberation does not come from inside the party that manages empire. It never has and never will.

This is the same Labour Government letting B52 bombers take off from British soil to bomb Iran - while people here at home pay the price of Trump's illegal war in spiking energy prices.
Warm words about ending the war won't cut it - Burnham must end the UK's participation.

If you read the details of this case and the investigative work that BBC journalist Daniel De Simone did to reveal MI5's lies and the violent neo Nazi spy they protected, you will realise how unconscionable this decision is.
MI5 and its director general Sir Ken McCallum will not face contempt of court proceedings despite lying to courts about neo-Nazi agent who threatened girlfriend, judges rule trib.al/TxUWHmj

I need people understand that understaffing isn't a bug of where you work, or your manager being a dick, but a feature of a system constantly trying to minimize its biggest cost (labor). Every place I've ever worked it's presented as a perpetually temporary problem. It isn't.

call me crazy but perhaps if the state had just taken this guy's car off him the first time he used it as a weapon, then the victim might still be alive

lol when Thom Yorke chided his fans for supporting BDS he said that “The person who knows most about these things is Jonny. He has an Israeli wife.”
And then you check out his wife’s Twitter feed and it’s wall to wall retweets of Lee Kern, Eli David, and Douglas Murray

Russia, China and other countries routinely labeled “authoritarian” know that footage of police manhandling and dragging 80-year-old women away for peacefully protesting would be broadcast around the world as evidence of their repressive political systems. In Western Europe, the mythology of liberalism, freedom and openness is so deeply entrenched that authorities can carry out brutal crackdowns in full view of the public without facing any official scrutiny

You do realise most landlords with properties in their own name are currently operating at a loss or on paper thin margins? Maybe this is something you don’t realise?

the whole ‘humble straight-talking northern businessman just trying to get by’ routine is the most insufferable trope in british media. he’s not the struggling everyman just bc he sells pies and has a northern accent lol

Britain is running 10% fewer trains today than pre-COVID, yet ridership is up by 110%. This means more overcrowding (already bad in 2019) and less choice for passengers. The good thing? We can actually fix this quite quickly.

What sort of journalist stores up infractions by public servants for release in memoirs long after the individuals involved have moved on?
BBC presenter Laura Kuenssberg has revealed a series of uncomfortable encounters with politicians, including one occasion when she arrived at a hotel room expecting a professional meeting and found a minister lying on a bed with his partner.

I asked the Met to clarify if this indeed does mean they will arrest anyone passing their granny an Evian and a spokesperson said they were “not going to define the terms we’ve used in our press release beyond their plain English meanings”. The ambiguity is deliberate, I’d guess

I always liked this scene in The Next Generation where Picard explains to a Wall Street financier that society has eliminated scarcity, poverty, hunger, and money. The financier is troubled by that, and Picard responds that the point is to enrich your life.
