The Constitution sometimes wins! Today, we got judgment in favour of residents of Ramula-Munungo-Uranga, Siaya County from Environment & Land Court on @shanta_gold’s activities!🕺🏿 Constitutional rights aren’t a suggestion✌🏿Next, Vihiga @otienowill @gichohi_waweru @johnallannamu?
Excellent piece here by @bonareri_tracy on what's been happeing in Ramula - Siaya, between Shanta gold and residents of the town. From fake land consent forms to trumped up charges and killings, to the seeming tacit approval of impunity by the state, what should be an opportunity for mutual benefit is turning into a land and power grab - for gold. youtube.com/watch?v=Nnuu7OFV… @HassanAliJoho

Good to see some of the reactions to Serbia and Brazil: that it takes dedicated organising to win an election. What will it take to change a system? To fix an economy? To challenge a deeply unfair global (dis)order? To renew a social commitment to the values Kenyans agreed represent them? Just as important, who will it take beyond politicians for this to happen? Kenya is in an argument between its past and its future - how it goes depends on who shows up to argue.

We need to pay attention, people are providing blueprints of how to change their countries: The 140 seats won by the Serbian student party will be taken up not by students, but by academics & public figures from pre-chosen pool of 250 experts, selected by student plenums.
Celebrations have erupted in the streets of Serbia's capital Belgrade, after long-standing leader Aleksandar Vučić admitted defeat to a student-led protest movement in snap parliamentary elections. Read more: bbc.in/4BwV5ga

When community members in Siaya rejected Shanta Gold's land acquisition, state security stepped in. Local activist Silas Asitiba was arrested at gunpoint, paraded on DCI social media, and had his phones seized, with court orders to return it ignored. Was the police doing their job or we're they weaponized to silence committee members genuinely opposing land consents? #LandGoldandPower
SIAYA UNLAWFUL DEMO MOBILIZER CORNERED IN DRINKING DEN Gem Sub County detectives have arrested the key mobilizer behind the violent demonstrations witnessed in Yala on April 6, 2026, in a well-coordinated raid. Acting on pinpoint intelligence, the detectives raided a local drinking den in Ramula where the suspect, 30-year-old Silas Asitiba, was apprehended. Asitiba is believed to be the primary architect and mobilizer of the rowdy group that descended upon Ramula Police Post, leaving a trail of destruction in their wake. The suspect is currently in custody, undergoing processing, and is set to face a litany of charges, including: Arson, Assault, Malicious damage to property, Incitement to violence among others. The hunt is far from over, as detectives are currently hot on the trail of several other accomplices who organised and funded the chaos. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) advises the public to refrain from participating in unlawful demonstration. While the right to picket is constitutionally guaranteed, the transition into criminality, hooliganism, and the targeting of police installations will be met with the full force of the law. #FichuaKwaDCI. #France has reported the first documented case of a human infection with #Shamonda virus, a virus only previously detected in animals. The patient was immunocompromised, which made them more vulnerable to infection and severe disease, and unfortunately died. My heartfelt condolences to their loved ones. Shamonda virus primarily affects animals such as cattle, sheep, goats and horses. The virus is thought to spread between animals by the bites of a midge, which is a small fly-like insect. Further studies are needed to fully understand transmission. The French patient was in an area where the Shamonda virus was circulating in animals and where Culicoides midges were also present. @WHO is in contact with French authorities who are collecting information to better understand the source of infection in the first human patient, possible routes of transmission and any potential risk to public health.
