From Serbia to Brazil to the United States, we're witnessing a shift in the global political tide. The rise of conservatism is meeting renewed resistance, as liberal movements regain ground. Every turn toward authoritarianism creates the conditions for a counter-movement.
🇺🇸 The U.S. midterm elections have made history. Democrats have taken control of both the U.S. House and Senate, and some of the results are almost unbelievable. Here's what happened: 1. Democrats flipped 6 Senate seats and 15 House seats, marking their largest Senate net gain since 2008. 2. Kansas elected Adam Hamilton, its first Democratic U.S. senator in 94 YEARS, defeating Republican Roger Marshall. 3. Texas elected James Talarico to the Senate, its first Democratic Senate victory since 1988, defeating Trump-backed Ken Paxton. 4. Abdul El-Sayed won the Michigan Senate race, becoming the first Muslim elected to the U.S. Senate. 5. Gina Hinojosa defeated Republican Greg Abbott, becoming Texas' first Democratic governor in more than 30 YEARS and its first Latina governor. 6. Democrats also flipped Senate seats in Ohio, North Carolina, South Carolina and Iowa, including Sherrod Brown's comeback victory in Ohio. 7. Xavier Becerra defeated Steve Hilton to become California's first Latino governor since 1875. 8. Texas turned blue as Democrats swept all five major statewide races for the first time in decades. 9. Democrats made major gains in traditionally Republican states, including Texas, Kansas, South Carolina and Iowa, where Trump had won comfortably in 2024. The biggest issue for voters was the cost of living. High fuel prices, the Iran war and growing frustration over the economy played a major role in the results. This is one of the biggest shifts in American politics since the 2006 midterms.

Civil society organizations will be invited to the bicameral conference committee so they can publicly shame those who would be caught inserting their pet projects in the proposed 2027 national budget, according to Sen. Panfilo Lacson. tinyurl.com/27kksvm5 | via @onenewsph

When the angry nerds speak, the country pays attention. Our collective voice is getting louder and we dare the untouchables to back off. The budget insertions might be legal but they’re completely illogical so it’s the duty of who made those amendments to explain it; if not, the people will not allow even a single centavo to be spent. Pera natin yan at hiram lang ang kanilang kapangyarihan. Sila ang mag adjust sa gusto ng taumbayan! PUNONG PUNO NA KAMI 😡

Una, @znsuzara was not Sec Abad’s speech writer. Ako at boss ko ‘yon. 2nd, she was not an errand admin staff. She was handling all the technical work before everything (policy and projects) got to our boss. Most importantly, ad hominem doesn’t solve the problem of insertions.

The second largest swing when Sara is replaced by Baste is in NCR from 48.7% down -> 33.5% (MoE±7%) This is how it would look like if plugged into the NEMO Swingmeter (including its neighbors) @QuingAndre
Some catches: In the expanded list, Sen. Tulfo at 28% and FVP Robredo at 25% are tied as the leading picks among pro-Marcos voters, followed by Duterte at 12%, Bong Go at 11%, Hontiveros at 7%, and Teodoro at 6%. Among Independents: Duterte 32%, Robredo 21%, Tulfo 14%, Aquino 5%. In a three-way race (among pro-Marcos voters): Robredo is at a near-majority 48%, Duterte at 28%, while presumed administration bet Teodoro is only at 15%. Very close among Independents, with a 5-pt gap: Duterte 43%, Robredo 38%, Teodoro 4%. For head-to-head matchups: Pro-Marcos voters back Robredo by more than 2:1: Robredo 61%, Duterte 25%. Against Baste Duterte, it’s Robredo 71%-21%. Among Independents, the same 5-pt gap: Duterte 46%, Robredo 41%. However, if it’s Baste Duterte, Robredo leads Independents by double digits, +13%. Pro Duterte and the Opposition Senators Padilla 39%, Bong Go 24%, and Marcoleta 16% are the main VP picks among pro-Duterte voters. If Baste replaces Inday, his support is at 80%, considerably lower. Robredo receives 15% in this scenario (among pro-Duterte voters). A majority of opposition voters support Robredo in the expanded list, with 52%, followed by Duterte at 12%, Aquino at 10%, Hontiveros at 7%, Bong Go at 6%, and Tulfo at 5%. In the matchups, Robredo is at 81-84%. The top VP picks from the opposition bloc are all senators: Bam Aquino at 29%, Kiko Pangilinan at 21%, Raffy Tulfo at 18%, and Risa Hontiveros at 17%. @momentumph_ @DeusXMachina14 @QuingAndre
