Let's talk VC technicals (consumer/dtc). They're things so googleable that no one will ever probably explicitly teach them to you.
But from my experience, it's the hardest to get acquainted with, especially when breaking into VC.
Let's dive in (🧵)

Consumer is having an identity crisis.
So, I asked around for the best people investing in consumer tech at pre-seed and compiled:

Breaking into consumer VC, or know someone who might be a great consumer investor/researcher? We're starting our process for Fall Listeners @listendotco :)
I'd love to meet you + potentially work along side you this Fall.

Never got a chance to share this here, but a dream project since I was ~16 has been to build a darkroom in my apartment.
I’ve shot film since I was 14/15 and only had the opportunity to hand-print my photos a handful of times.
Finally got to do this last December :)
All consumer brands are some balance of demand-side & supply-side capabilities:
• Demand-side = brand/acquisition-focused.
• Supply-side = supply-chain + product/innovation-focused.
Supply-side thinking mitigates risk, demand-side thinking is what ultimately drives value.
Cohort analysis — is usually where I see the technical gap when early stage founders share data w/ us or when people break into VC.
You'll hardly ever have to build one from scratch, so I'll cover that separately. Here is why they're important & some common shapes to recognize.
Another post will be coming soon, if there's interest, in the different ways to build cohorts to different levels of depth and complexity.
Wanna figure out if it's more helpful from the perspective of founders building out a data room or for folks prepping to break into VC!
If this has been helpful, feel free to like/bookmark the first post so you'll never lose it :D
