We don’t yet know whether the Biden administration knew about the alleged espionage specifically. But the warning signs surrounding the company and its access to advanced AI chips were already there. Then Trump was briefed on the intelligence. According to the New York Times, he took no action amid concerns about disrupting Nvidia’s chip sales, economic growth and the stock market, and complicating trade relations with China. And the administration did nothing to warn Huang. While the alleged threat remained, Nvidia contributed at least $20 million toward Trump’s ballroom fund, according to a source familiar with the donation who spoke to the Times.
