One of the most powerful videos you'll see today. Dr. James A. Makokis speaking to the historic announcement that Saddle Lake Cree Nation will defy Alberta's anti-LGBTQ+ laws and provide a safe haven for trans and two spirit people on their land 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈❤️🪶

This is a hard article to read, but I hope you'll do so. I've spent some time reporting on widespread rape and other sexual violence of Palestinian male and female prisoners by Israeli authorities, and the article is now published. The assault victims were warned not to give speak of what they endured -- they were sometimes told they would be killed or raped if they gave interviews -- but they found the courage to do so. One man described being raped three times in a single day in Israeli prison, the third time after he tried to protest. A young woman said the guards would come in at the beginning of each shift and strip her naked and abuse her. Another reported that she was shown photos of herself being raped and warned they would be released unless she cooperated with Israeli intelligence. Even three children who had been detained told me they had been sexually abused. Look, whatever our position on the Middle East, we should be able to agree on being anti-rape. Sexual assaults were horrific when Israeli women were targeted on Oct. 7, and they're equally horrific when Israeli authorities use them against Palestinians day after day after day. We should be able to find common ground in opposing rape. Here's a gift link to the article: nytimes.com/2026/05/11/opini…

Carney supporters are attacking Canada Post, but I think they fail to realize just how much CP subsidizes the activity of Canadians and Canadian businesses Take sending a letter, for example. The cost of one stamp is 1.44 for any domestic mailing of a standard letter. That means for less than 2 bucks you can mail a letter from rural Newfoundland all the way to the Yukon. You can send a standard letter to JAPAN for less than 4 bucks. If you did that with a private carrier? The would probably cost 20 times the amount domestically, and much more internationally. Also: Canada Post allows everyone in Canada to write their Member of Parliament in Ottawa for free. There is zero chance a capitalist firm would do this. If Canada post could actually charge market rates, they would make more money, but then people would complain they've lost the subsidized services CP provides that UPS and others do not.

Why did Carney invite a far-right guest to his cabinet retreat? (1/4)

Trump’s team built a snitch site targeting Canadian doctors. Not US doctors. Ours. It asks people to report gender-affirming care. Every province was listed. That's not some code fluke. It's a political threat to scare Canadian health workers into silence. breachmedia.ca/trump-admin-a… 🧵1/4

This decision by Carney gives Pierre Poilievre - if he wins the next election - cover to not appoint a Women and Gender Equality Minister either. A dangerous, and frankly stupid, precedent. C'mon @MarkJCarney. #cdnpoli
The removal of this cabinet position is not just a symbolic loss; it has real-world implications for millions of women and gender-diverse people: ow.ly/p9BS50VitfA

Canada has had a Minister of Labour since 1909, because even then they understood that workers were vital to Canadian society Every Liberal AND Conservative government since has had a Minister of Labour Until Mark Carney No worker should vote for him, even strategically.

Mark Carney doesn't care about women. Pass it on
As of today, there is no longer a Minister of Women’s and Gender Equality and Youth (WAGE) within cabinet. #cdnpoli

During a time of an extreme rise in transphobia and misoginy not having a Minister of Women and Gender Equality seems like a pretty huge oversight
