Details:
- Founded in 2021, Karya AI flips the data industry's business model on its head. They sell data to tech giants and then funnel the profits back to those who need it the most - the rural poor of India. Andthe workers OWN the data they produce.
- Karya AI ensures a $5 per hour minimum wage and a reselling bonus, creating a sustainable income source that can match an average Indian annual income.
- Karya AI targets marginalized language communities, giving them better access to technology & AI. This initiative is supplementary work, not a permanent job, widening the scope of opportunity rather than limiting it.
- Karya AI is partnering with a healthcare NGO in Karnataka to build a speech dataset in various Kannada dialects to create an AI model that'll answer questions about tuberculosis - a disease that still kills around 200k Indians yearly.
- Karya AI works with major players like Microsoft, MIT, Stanford, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to build informative chatbots.
- Karya's data quality is exceptional (<1% error rate), but their main goal is poverty alleviation via AI.
