Looking through the fruits of this winter’s hobby of vibecoding websites..
noticed some obvious trends that could render your work dismissible, or just forgettable:
> purple, blue, or orange
> accent color always has same saturation %
> dark mode
> sans-serif fonts, in boring pairs
> gradients everywhere
> gradients always in same direction
> favicons in vague shape, same color crimes
> all info blocks in cards with 20pt round corners
> spacing too uniform
> icons/categories in random colors
> the little icon + label tag above a header on landing page (horrid)
> no other photographs or graphics
you still need design, or at least taste.
if you don’t have that, you bring in someone who does
Doomer takes like this aren't popular, but it's one I agree with since much of the discourse on grok is frustratingly too myopic. it's not just grok, it's not just twitter. fixing grok won't make twitter "safe". not really. the types of men who even think to type these prompts will simply take your photos and do it elsewhere. they already are. the ones who haven't yet are now realizing a new hobby or business model.
This grok thing is just the canary showing the worst of people exploiting these tools, and updating the rest of us who can benefit from this awareness now. I can’t say I’m terribly optimistic about legislation keeping up with reality, so it’s likely that this “trend” will just die down, consumer genAI will be updated with tighter guardrails to protect the hosting platform from liability, and everyone goes back to trying to ignore the dark corners of the internet, where your friend or brother or coworker might be hanging out saving mp4s.
the good news of living in the slopternet is it's a wonderful time to be someone who's actually smart + empathetic. very scarce very value!
