ALT Jill Quirk, Middle Level Math and Science Teacher, Annapolis West Education Centre, Teacher Award for NSTU Annapolis. Jill is an inspirational, energetic, and passionate grade 6 math and science teacher who enriches the learning environment through hands-on, authentic learning. Jill collaborates with other subject teachers to promote cross-curricular learning. Recently, she organized a grade 6 science fair focused on Universal Design for Learning where students created their own colony on Mars. The project incorporates math, science, English Language Arts, French, and social studies. To engage students in math learning, Jill organizes a “math exhibition” in which her students create math games for other classes to try. Jill also leads a STEAM club for students, coaches several school sports, and supports the AWEC Middle School Student Council. She fosters sense of community and encourages a growth mindset by creating learning experiences to remember for a lifetime.
