Software bugs have this thing of being difficult to fix until you grasp a concept then they suddenly become simple to fix. So is life.

A few months ago, $1 got you two tomatoes. Now, that $1 gets you a whole crate. Where are we losing the plot farmers and manufactures?
🍅 tomato prices haven’t been on their best behavior!! Farmers are you surviving?

I had a chat with one Zim "Techie" here, his point of view - we need capital, my correction - Zimbabwe really needs a cultural mindset shift, at a large scale, the way people don't have confidence in Zim capability is annoying. We can do all these things and more

All these proposed sandboxes can be housed in one space for ease of management & uniformity. They can all create instances on one Government Cloud with proper security & access privileges. Check out infratel.co.zm/ and szi.gov.zm/ for benchmarking.

You can check out who Artha is! They will be back next year October 2027 and we will have a pitch night for the top tech investment opportunities. We will also have the ABAN Zimbabwe Chapter and inviting @LaunchAfricaVC as well, our local pension funds and life funds are probably underinvesting in Tech. @nssazw @ZimnatOfficial @FMHL__ @OldMutualZW @Official_MIPF? If tech is the future what are we investing in it? #JoinTheZWTechAwakening

What did India see, build and get right to become the back office to the world? And could Zimbabwe follow a similar path? Suchit Nanda, CEO of Online Services and Advisor to the Reliance Foundation, takes us back to the 1980s to unpack the conditions, decisions and opportunities that set India on this trajectory. Take a listen. There are important lessons here for Zimbabwe. @BusisaMoyo

There was a Civil Engineer who learnt in China and was failing to get an engineering job. This is the opportunity they should pursue and build on from there.

Thank you Chief! This about ecosystems, funding, business, programming & linkages. I believe @compsocietyzim can benefit immensely and be more inclusive. The Council under discussion will include such associations, institutions of higher learning, @researchzim & other innovators and inventors. There is plenty of work & glory for everyone! We brought you fund managers who run VC funds totalling USD250m. Please please make your members if they need investment they must benefit…we can fight for turf when we are all past middle income

I am sorry you see it that way! My friend Rusty (now in SA) was a chapter Chairperson in Bulawayo in the 1990s. It’s professional body but doesn’t cover a lot that the 120 techpreneurs are calling for. This is for now. Our guest of honour Mercy Omollo also mentioned @ISACANews another professional body. This is not the request…we are after an ecosystem which is deficient. Where you have a good point is that @compsocietyzim can be a massive contributor to what our young people are calling for. These are funders and ecosystem builders and far more inclusive than what we have seen up to now. Including Innovation Hubs & other ecosystem builders.

We told him about CSZ today. Remember, this is not his domain and he is doing what we should have done. If he doesn't know CSZ, it's not his fault. I haven't seen them active on the socials. Anyway, he said he will invite the President and any other tech association President for dinner on his budget soon.

With all due respect how does @BusisaMoyo fail to recognise the effort by Computer Society of Zimbabwe over the last half decade in moulding tech professionals and entrepreneurs in all this. My mind is left short

Sometimes, I feel African governments just want to embarrass tech guys on an international scale.

Cigarette is the worst: combustion toxins drive cancer, COPD, and heart disease, making smoking a top preventable killer. Alcohol ranks next: chronic use damages liver, raises cancer risk, and harms heart and brain. Painkillers (esp. opioids) follow: high overdose potential plus organ stress from long-term use. Energy drinks: excess caffeine/sugar can spike heart rate and blood pressure, but severe outcomes are rarer. Cannabis joint: some respiratory irritation if smoked, lower toxicity and lethality overall. Overthinking: chronic stress elevates cortisol and can worsen physical health indirectly, yet it is not a direct toxin.

Asking for Stripe to come solve our payment problems is just plain ridiculousness.
paynow literally does all this mate.

paynow literally does all this mate.
Dear @stripe I've been in tech for nearly a decade now. I wrote my first line of code on a computer in 2017; before that, I was writing it on paper, and since then I've spent a lot of time around builders here in Zimbabwe, in classrooms, at meetups, in late-night WhatsApp groups, on teams shipping software to the rest of the world. In all that time, one problem has come up more than any other. It isn't talent, and it isn't ambition. It's money, or more precisely, how money moves. We don't have proper access to payment gateways. No @stripe. No @paystack. And when you can't get paid, you can't build a business. You can only build a project. Every year our universities and colleges produce thousands of graduates who want to solve real problems, in health, agriculture, finance, logistics, government, you name it. Some of the most important problems in this country are going to be solved by them. But a product without a way for money to flow through it isn't a startup. It's a demo. AI has made this gap even more painful. A developer in Bulawayo or Harare with a laptop and good tools can now build in weeks what used to take a team months. More people than ever are able to start companies here. Then they reach the checkout page and stop. What do we do instead? The lucky few register companies abroad, open foreign bank accounts, and jump through expensive hoops just to accept a card payment. Everyone else relies on workarounds, a friend's account in another country, informal transfers, "just send it via..." None of that is good for founders, for customers, or for compliance. And the old reasons for keeping Zimbabwe out are weaker than ever. The US sanctions program on Zimbabwe ended in 2024. We came off the FATF grey list in 2022. Stripe Tax already lists Zimbabwe as a supported country. Some of the groundwork exists. Payments still don't. We have a real tech ecosystem here. We have the talent. We have people who keep building through power cuts, currency changes and every other obstacle this country throws at them. What we don't have is the infrastructure to build end to end. So here's my ask, respectfully and directly. @stripe @paystack, is Zimbabwe on your roadmap? If not, what exactly is in the way? And would you consider an invite-only pilot for vetted Zimbabwean businesses receiving USD payments? I'll personally help put together the first group of companies. And to every Zimbabwean founder and developer reading this, reply or quote with what you're building and what you'd ship if payments weren't the problem. Let's show them the demand is real. @patrickc @collision
