Parents of Ian Mutinda Mumo, a 19-year-old Kabarak University student, have instructed a lawyer to send a demand letter to Monicah M. Muthami, deputy clerk of the Nairobi County Assembly. They allege that after they sold their only piece of land to raise about KSh 300,000, paid his fees in full, and sent him to university in September 2025, the 57-year-old took him from campus and is keeping him at her house in Nairobi. They say they fear he is abandoning his studies and that the arrangement is harmful to him. The dispute has reportedly drawn in village elders, pastors, the area chief, and other community leaders, partly because the two are said to come from the same village in Kitui.
