Kids’ stuff is obvs even more important, but I’ve experienced this bizarre antisocial crap amongst supposed good friends for years. Friend had a milestone bday at Top Golf b/c she loves it & it’s fun to hang even if you don’t play. Several friends: “not our thing.” K, it’s not your bday? Another friend’s husband died. She had a party after the funeral to celebrate him. Some didn’t even come to that b/c “death is weird.” YEAH NO SHIT. It’s not about you. Grow the fuck up.

This hurts as a parent.
We sent our two youngest children on a cruise with my parents last night. They flew from Chicago to Miami and board tomorrow morning. My 5-year-old daughter was excited for the plane and cruise, but now struggles being away from Mom and Dad. She wants to come home despite knowing she'll have fun. Halfway through our FaceTime, she broke down in tears just from seeing me.
This hurts me deeply as a dad. Do I let her deal with it, or drop everything, buy a plane ticket, and get her from over 1,300 miles away before they board?
Being a dad is hard when your kids' emotions hurt, because it hurts my emotions even more.

One week, my great grandma realized she'd scheduled 7 dates in 6 nights.
She decided one guy had to go.
Did the man she cancelled on seethe, call her a hoe, & stop speaking to her?
Nope!
He wrote her a poem.
He said no matter how much he tried to get close to her, she kept slipping away.
He said the game of love was hard & there unfortunately must be losers.
He said he hoped, once his heart had healed, that they could be friends.
She was so touched by this poem, she agreed to go on a date with him.
And marry him. And have 3 kids. She took up fishing, a big love of his, so she could spend more time with him.
Yes, that man was my great grandpa.
I got my love of writing from him & my hoe side from her 😂
But I love this story because it shows that even back in the day, men had competition. Women weren't demurely dating 1 guy at a time; they were courting for marriage, a serious business that required consideration of all of the options!
And taking rejection well took one guy from the bottom of a woman's roster to #1 💙
