Spencer: "We are so successful, we operate across 166 countries and we even help get people to marry"
Nikolai: "That's great! This must be because your advanced recommendation algorithm that does advanced coordination"
Spencer: "Ah no. Only recently we started having a proper algorithm, which we still improve incrementally. The reason people pay us subscriptions and we are able to make billions is because of the high liquidity that exists within apps. If a policy makes the platform and data open to all, we will stop having the MOAT of charging users access/rent to the platform" 🤡

It would be at least cute if media in Europe shared such stories instead of promoting upskilling seminars
This is such a bleak story about what it's like to try to land a job right now. nytimes.com/interactive/2026…
Let's hope this wasn't posted on LinkedIn also...
When you are in Cascais lecturing at @novasbe University on the future of the Eu🇪🇺 Single Market and students are really next level!
Is it only in Eastern Europe where grannies use LLMs but still haven't learnt/used to type with both of their hands on a smartphone?

Every religion in history has promised miracles and warned of the apocalypse. Anthropic is the first to file both with the SEC.
I am following Milo's career choices. My hedge against AI job loss is to become local salesman of nougat pies in local Greek ferry lines.
This is what I have said in the past that has been broken when it comes to searching answers through prompts and LLMs. When people used Google Search they had to engage with a topic and go through its terminology; in that process they learned.
Now we don't need to use the terminology of a craft or industry. We just describe the situation and wait for the LLM to accurately label it, which equates to learning for the LLM, but not for us in navigating the world easily.
We have confused that we shouldn't train middle managers to become CEOs, with the lack of apprenticeship for someone early stage to become professional

Underrated that you can often win in startups simply by convincing top talent to work in an industry with historically low talent density.
Palantir is the canonical example here, and Ramp is looking like another startup executing this strategy.

One thing I’ve learned today is that a LOT of Airbnb hosts haven’t realized they’re actually in the hospitality industry, not the real estate industry.
I was very happily surprised to see that @C3_AI allows you to opt out of AI matching before you submit an application. This doesn't imply though that there isn't ATS involved. Who knows what's better
Btw people don't understand how having boomers alive is important about the social practices and tactile knowledge in life. Beyond their wealth concentration, boomers came of age in an era anchored in formal civic participation and institutional continuity

Equivocating ambition w/ massive funding rounds is the cancer of an entire generation of founders and a magnet for scam artists.
Invest in founders with a level of ambition that makes you uncomfortable.
I’ve sat at the table with a number of entrepreneurs who are raising seemingly back-to-back mega rounds every 3 months in the last year.
I’m an extraordinarily aggressive risk-taker, but in all these meetings I’ve felt physically uncomfortable.
To the point when I noticed I was gripping the chair in a meeting with a founder.
This is what it takes to win big and be truly venture-backable today.
Don't confuse lack of friction for abundance. Abundance has to do with non-scarce options. Dating apps amplify scarce options, they don't generate abundance magically
Dating apps are the perfect example of abundance led unhappiness
Pretty convinced that humans are the happiest where they are in pursuit of a goal, whether that is idealistic (relationships) or materialistic (money, career)
However, when you force abundance upon people, like dating apps do, it actually leads to a lot of unhappy outcomes
Turns out that human brains are inherently not built to deal with abundance. It is not the normal state of our evolutionary minds
So whenever an industry forces abundance upon society, it is likely to have some very negative external effects along the way
Believe this is also why many are worried about impact of AI on society. This new technology allows intelligence to scale and become abundant like never before.
Similar to dating apps, I suspect that the abundance of intelligence is actually likely to make humans far less intelligent in the long run
We are already seeing this in schools and corporate jobs where people are becoming overly reliant on their AI tools.
The next decade will be a battle between outsourcing your thinking to AI vs enhancing your thinking with AI. You must pick wisely.

Deleting Instagram did NOTHING to improve my productivity. I now doomscroll on Google Maps.
Gym lifestyle and maximizing protein had as a second order effect for men to learn how to cook healthy nutritious meals, and now experiment with new variations and tasty recipes
