>1500 scientists from >100 countries agreeing in something is a very rare event. In this opinion piece we joined together to express that if biological nomenclature is not understood as a neutral tool, we put ourselves at risk . Let me explain why we had to organize this 🧵👇

Exciting opportunities! On the nomenclatural musings in this article ("cybertypes" etc.) I have written an eLetter, which is now published at the end of the paper and on ResearchGate at researchgate.net/publication…
Combining in situ underwater imaging, #robotics, and genomic sequencing, researchers in @ScienceAdvances have created a data suite that provides a cybertype for deep-sea midwater organisms. scim.ag/5EF

Biologists must fight against the colonial legacy, hate and discrimination. But we also must protect the precious value of the nomenclatural biological systems, which enables universal and transcultural communication. Have a look to our reflection here: doi.org/10.13140/RG.2.2.1027…

Take a bow @DrBenSpencer @JohnGlenUK @hbaldwin @Conservatives MPs who voted not to conserve our rivers but flood them with sewage. Your achievement will be remembered for posterity. Blue plaques for dirty politicians are popping up all over England - if you see one, tag us 😎
