I've seen this scenario play out before in tech. It brought down Novell (a 25-year-old billion dollar a year company) in 2007. Allaire, SilverStream, and Sun Microsystems also bet big on middleware systems that rapidly became unprofitable. The end result is a wipeout of whoever's left holding the bag. Anthropic is destined to hit the wall at some point. When it does it will be wiped out and will likely take a couple other companies with it. Whether it will take down the whole economy is anyone's guess.
The reason frontier LLMs will never be profitable is because the minute they stop spending, the free models catch up.
You're in a constant loop of increased spending to stay ahead, while everyone behind you catches up at a fraction of the cost by using your model.
LLMs are just commodity with no moat.

The administration has frequently tried to enact a “pocket rescission,” a tactic that involves ignoring or overriding congressional appropriations so late in the fiscal year that lawmakers don’t have time to intervene before the funding expires on September 30. The U.S. Government Accountability Office argues that this maneuver is illegal; once Congress has appropriated funds in a specific way, the executive branch does not have the option to refuse to spend them. This September, the Trump administration “pocket-rescinded” $70 million of the $85 million that lawmakers had approved in February for International and Foreign Language Education grants, and $25 million of the $52 million budgeted for the High School Equivalency Program and the College Assistance Migrant Program, which serve migrant workers and their family members.

Every person in every state should pay attention and triple check ✔️✔️✔️ their candidate selections!
IMPORTANT 🚨 Voters in four states are reporting a very disturbing trend being seen in early voting.
Texas, Florida, Tennessee, Ohio are reporting difficulties getting the machines to accept democratic votes.
The machines change them back to Republican unless the voter persists, pressing several times to get the correct vote to go through.
You can’t use your phone while voting, so there’s unfortunately no video… just word of mouth.
Check your machine, check to see that it accepted the correct vote.
Make sure your voice counts.
And personally, this is why I always choose paper ballots!

Has the cost of bridge construction materials increased from May 2024? No doubt. Is it fairly normal for initial cost estimates on large infrastructures to underestimate the final costs? Yes. Do projects like this almost inevitably encounter unexpected complications and delays? Yes. The new bridge will have slightly wider lanes and will incorporate new structural elements designed to protect the new bridge’s piers from future vessel strikes — all of which will make it at least a bit more expensive.
But the estimated cost of rebuilding the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore has nearly _tripled_ on the low end and nearly _quintupled_ on the high end, and what was supposed to be a just-over-four-year project is now looking like at least a six-year project.
