Leave Tongam Rina alone. She is one of the best journalists in our country, from Arunachal Pradesh. Journalism is not a crime, and journalists should never be targeted for simply doing their job.
🚨 Arunachal Pradesh police applies for search warrants against one of state's most respected journalists, Tongam Rina, associate editor @arunachaltimes_ and lawyer Sunny Tayeng who represents environmental activists Ebo Milli, Otul Jerang and Tajong Talom. #SiangUpperMultipurposeProject #Siang

Unbelievable! "The Union Tribal Affairs Ministry has said that Nicobarese leaders seeking to join a petition challenging the settlement of forest rights on Great Nicobar Island are “neither necessary nor proper parties”." You are a national shame, @TribalAffairsIn.

Big drama in Kerala High Court. Order dictated in open court a few days back. Matter suddenly listed out of turn today and order changed sans explanation. And our courts wonder why people are questioning them.

Adv Sashidharan: Cannot be done, my Lord, an order passed in open court cannot be recalled or reviewed unless there is a petition on that behalf.

Thank you sir. I wrote the article you're referencing. Can you explain a) why reasons for deletions aren't displayed in public, b) if this is indeed a problem with the ERO net app and c) if you've flagged these concerns to officials above you in the ECI? I await your response.

On the viability of Media Business in India and its political economy: I study the business operations of media orgs for a while as a side entertainment. It's instructive. There is a churn in the industry and there is a business model challenge because tech advancement has altered the capital required to start a tiny operation. A million new 'media and content' businesses have proliferated and moth-eaten into the growth of big media revenues. But, The story of large Indian media businesses can never be visible from reading topline profits and revenues from the balance sheets of the mothership entities. The way money is milked-out by promoters, owners and top editors, directly and through other adjacent cost booking hide the actual financial health of the main media production company. The owners and editors are not yet willing in most organisations to end their gravy trains and influence peddling. Neither are they keen to do more or better journalism. Having reconciled that they cannot do any more journalism than they do at the moment, they have instead decided to move into the volume 'content' generation market. When they complain about journalism not working out as a business, it's usually the case that they are in the business of 'minimal journalism' and maxing content generation to cover for that. And, that model is competing with a million new nimble-footed, miniscule or near-zero capital infused, content generators. The traditional ad-revenue streams of these minimal journalism media businesses (from private companies and political parties in power) are flattening. Corporates and political parties (in and out of power) are incrementally putting money behind 'content generator influencers'. The media orgs aren't getting share of this growing pie that they think they deserve by right. The only way these minimal-journalism max-media business orgs would do better for their journalist employees was if they did more journalism. But, they know, that they cannot afford to do that and live the kind of 'media mogul' lives they have lived for long. So, they keep doing more 'content' and milking their motherships while claiming journalism doesn't pay in India. It would, if they invested in journalism.

Not only is it stupid but also mostly slop. They are trying so hard to be evocative with the Vienna analogy. Also, contrarianism!= independent thought. It reads like an aesthetic of intellectualism to me because none of the ideas seem original.

Very important thread on the ECI's desperate attempt to cover its tracks before the Supreme Court and it will not wash. This has now become a test of the @indSupremeCourt and whether it wants to lose public legitimacy just as the @ECISVEEP already has.
The Election Commission has filed its reply in the Supreme Court to the petition on how the three-member Commission functions. 27 pages, approved by all three members. Its argument: every decision was unanimous, and a Commissioner’s note is a “suggestion,” not a decision. Here’s what it addresses, and what it doesn’t. 🧵 (1/10)

Yeah, looks like it. Dreaming right-wing renaissance out of the ashes of secular socialism with nostalgic set-design of Viennese modernists in 1896, brooding over coffee.
Every single post I've seen from Indian "academia" (which is almost 95% straight-up Mimicry of Western academia and has almost nothing new to show for itself in terms of brand-new ideas) is petty, childish, and jealousy-ridden seethe. It's proof that @sirfaditya and @kavitaayeinn are doing something very interesting and provoking...

Amazing achievement. In 2024, Serbian students issued this letter to "Students Around the world" “The world is on the brink of collapse, representative democracy is failing and our future is at risk...There are countless reasons for a blockade, and you know best what yours is"
