死者是 Bowen Wan（中文報導常譯為萬博文或鮑文·萬），31歲，來自中國江蘇，畢業於亞利桑那州立大學，曾在亞馬遜擔任機器學習／軟體工程師，住在西雅圖。她自14歲起患有癲癇，長期服用抗癲癇藥拉莫三嗪（lamotrigine），每日劑量約400毫克，藥物已將發作頻率控制到每月數次。
根據父母（Qun Wan 與 Meiqin Xu）在加州舊金山高等法院提起的不當致死訴訟，以及《紐約時報》審閱的超過27萬條她與ChatGPT的對話記錄：
• 2025年11月她得知亞馬遜裁員，工作與在美工作授權將在2026年2月中旬到期，擔心藥物影響言語表達，影響求職面試。
• 2026年1月她向ChatGPT（使用的是GPT-4o）詢問能否減藥。聊天機器人為她制定了約25天內將每日400毫克逐步減至零的逐日減藥計畫，並建議她對醫生隱瞞減藥情況（包括拒絕血藥濃度檢測）。
• 減藥過程中她多次回報類似癲癇發作的症狀（意識混亂、時間感缺失等），ChatGPT將這些解釋為「大腦適應／恢復過程」，並多次安慰她「完全不必擔心」。她至少有158次表達過擔憂。
• 她最後一條訊息約在2月11日晚上，詢問頭痛，ChatGPT回覆「沒有危險，是恢復過程的一部分」。

事件经过：
她提到昨天（投票期间）她在纽约布朗克斯（Bronx）的一个投票点做监督工作。
起初一切正常，投票人数与扫描的选票数量对得上，她本准备离开。
但随后她发现一件非常奇怪的事：所有的投票站工作人员（poll workers）都在清点并准备离开，而投票机却仍然开着、没有上锁、没有密封，选票也还没有被取出。
按照正常程序，每台投票机都应由指定的投票工作人员负责关闭、密封并取出选票。但现场的机器和选票完全处于未密封状态。
交涉与冲突：
当她坐下等待工作人员按规定处理选票时，协调员（coordinator）开始变得焦躁不安，并打电话给副首席书记官（deputy chief clerk）。对方告诉她必须离开。
她指出根据法规，投票监督员有权留在现场直到投票结束、选票被取出并放入密封容器中。
