I was honoured to work with Martti Pärssinen, Alceu Ranzi and Fabio de Novaes to feature their spectacular LIDAR discoveries in the Amazon in Season 2 of my controversial Netflix docuseries Ancient Apocalypse (released October 2024). I have remained in close and friendly contact with the team and their ongoing work ever since and congratulate them on their newly published open-access paper in Nature which is linked at the end of the report in Science Alert below: sciencealert.com/completely-…

The only time in history we had decent living conditions for ordinary people was when we taxed the very rich. These two things are connected.

Thanks, Max, for striving to produce fair and balanced reporting. You are a credit to the Express, whose readers are getting a responsible account of the research at Göbekli Tepe thanks to your thoughtful, accessible, and appealing treatment of a scientific topic.

That’s really too bad, @SoilManDan I’ve had nothing but cordial and helpful interactions with @maxc73 for two years. I’ve found his reporting to be informed and responsible. He places a high priority on balance.

I like this: “similar to the UK henges, without stones” - very apt! Though, going by my knowledge of UK / North American archaeology, stone, or wooden posts were common additions to early solstice sites. I’d put money on them finding evidence of ‘em!

There are thousands of monuments in the Northeast of North America that should be saved too.

“Researchers have, in the past, linked devastating hurricanes in the United States - such as 2005 Hurricane Katrina - to wildfires in the Amazon. Today, vast infernos rage on in the rainforest dubbed ‘the lungs of the earth’” — @maxc73 express.co.uk/news/world/196…

A fire the size of Denmark burns Brazil's rainforest. This is just the tip of a (rapidly melting) iceberg. The Amazon is on fire. There's so much smoke in Bolivia archaeologist @Umba_moxos hasn't seen the sky for months #amazononfire #archaeology express.co.uk/news/world/196…

“… Hoopes instead argues that the rainforest we see today largely resulted from the activities of ancient indigenous farmers - whose sophisticated and widespread culture was wiped out by colonial genocide and pandemics.”
Archaeologists @KUHoopes and Ed Barnhart have very different takes on claims made @Graham__Hancock about lost civilisations - but all three agree that sophisticated agricultural practices in ancient times shaped the Amazon rainforest that we see today. express.co.uk/news/world/195…

Good article by @maxc73 sharing some of the truths about this (frankly silly) Gobekli Tepe gossip. Thanks for the write up I think it's important to keep educating the public on the methods, challenges, and relevance of archaeology
Archaeologists @drleeclare and @FlintDibble say much we have heard about Göbekli Tepe is probably wrong and explain why excavation is taking so long. @BrightInsight6 suggests WEF is part of conspiracy to keep the truth about civilisation's origins buried. express.co.uk/news/world/194…
