Big news!! The culmination of my PhD work is out now in @CellCellPress: “Gut bacteria convert glucocorticoids into progestins in the presence of hydrogen gas.” Just some gut bacteria doing cool chemistry that may impact pregnancy phenotypes, check it out! authors.elsevier.com/a/1j8j7…

Yesterday, the NIH R35 “Outstanding Investigator” grant to fund scientists in my lab studying antibiotic resistance was terminated for reasons not related to the content of the science, or any actions taken by me or members of my lab

New in @ScienceImmunology! 🧠✨ We explored how the brain maintains equilibrium with the immune system. Our focus? The key player in immune tolerance and tissue function regulation: regulatory T cells (Tregs). Let’s dive in! science.org/doi/10.1126/scii…

Excited to share that our work is online @cellhostmicrobe A small intestinal bile acid, taurodeoxycholic acid, is increased after sleeve gastrectomy and decreased in diabetic patients. It improves host metabolism by inhibiting the bacterial production of lithocholic acid.
Check out our new paper published @cellhostmicrobe! Lithocholic acid (LCA) is a metabolic toxin decreased by bariatric surgery. Taurodeoxycholic acid, which is increased by surgery, inhibits LCA production by microbes and has metabolic benefits. authors.elsevier.com/a/1jTSj……
