This is the second time in my career that I’ve received a gift in the mail from a colleague as an entirely random act of kindness and my heart is bursting out of my chest. It takes a special type of person to be an educator and I am so privileged to get to work alongside them 💕

Today is 🌈PRIDE DAY @oakwrdsb and our GSA worked hard on these flags to help educate others on the different ways that we can experience love towards ourselves and others. Today is all about practicing equity, acceptance, and inclusion of ALL identities @wrdsb #PRIDE 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

Sharing a few favourites of the geomagnetic storm this weekend from some local spots around KW. If you missed it, head outside tonight for another chance to see the Northern Lights!

Another reason to slow down: catching a little glimpse of magic in something ordinary. Glad I was able to notice these cute little quirks on my favourite tree. This is such a wonderful idea, might add a little detail of my own next time. Made my day 🐞

Swim to Survive was a huge success in 3A. We are so thankful for our amazing instructors who helped us conquer our fears and learn to swim. Here are just a few of the many core memories made on our last day in the pool. @oakwrdsb @wrdsb #swimtosurvive

Back in March 3A visited the White Owl Sugar Bush to learn about Maple Syrup. We had the opportunity to hear from indigenous voices and learn about their ways of knowing in the bush. We also enjoyed a live performance from the one and only @mccamms68! Thank you @outdoor_ed 🍁

Yesterday in 3A we went to our first round of life-saving swimming lessons and had an absolute blast! Many of us were scared to get in a pool for the first time, but we conquered our fears and it paid off. Love when students successfully use their growth mindset! #swimtosurvive

Our first ever @oakwrdsb Arts Showcase was a huge success! From the visual art installation to the performers on stage, owls had some powerful messages to share with us last night and I certainly heard them loud and clear. Did you? #RaiseYourVoice

Remember that not every walk needs to be to get your steps in or your heart rate up. Slowing down allows you to catch glimpses of nature’s little treasures that you might otherwise miss: like turtles sunbathing on a log, or a danger noodle giving bombastic side eye 🙃

Treaties, treaty rights and treaty relationships are an integral part of reconciliation work. Treaties Recognition Week has been designated by the @ONgov to increase education and awareness, and as part of the TRC Calls to Action. 🧵1/3

Someone on our @oakwrdsb team took the time to set up this awesome shoutout board to celebrate our wins and champion each other; I can’t wait to see this full of positive and uplifting notes! #OCProud #nottakingcredit #justreallyimpressed #HOOT #HOOT

3A used their knowledge of stable structures to explore different ways of building the tallest tower possible. We combined our strategies and worked together as a class to construct the ultimate tower and made math connections to our patterning unit too! @oakwrdsb @wrdsb #STEM

Today our owls are working together to walk 600km in memory of Chanie Wenjack, who attempted to walk the same distance home after escaping from a residential school. Sadly, Chanie did not survive his journey, so we will finish it for him 💜 #dosomething @oakwrdsb @wrdsb

As follow up to Secret Path Week, today @oakwrdsb students and staff will be participating in a Walk for Wenjack and we’ve set the goal of 600kms (or 2400 laps of the field). @downiewenjack
On October 22, the day Chanie Wenjack joined the spirit world, we remember a beloved son and brother. We honour Chanie's legacy by learning about the true history of Canada through his story and creating meaningful reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples.
